Just curious.

It depends on what type of anesthesia the dentist used. Usually we use an anesthetic that contains epinephrine which is a type of vaso-constrictor that actually keeps the “numbing” in an area longer by constricting the blood vessels. That type takes from 3 to 5 hours to wear off depending on your metabolism. There are anesthetics that do not have the epinephrine that are usually used on patients with heart or blood pressure considerations. There is a new product that has just come out that actually reverses the numbing effect before you leave the dental office. It is an injection that reverses the effects of epinephrine. You may ask your dentist if he has that available for you next time!
