Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
it's about this young woman who marries this much older, wealthy man. They live in this gothic mansion. Soon however she discovers that his last wife died (mysteriously), and she starts thinking certain things. The book is so much more than this little summary of mine...it's really good and there's a big twist in the end.

There's the book "The Laughing Corpse" which I think is the 2nd book in a series the first might be "Guilty Pleasure." Lots of investigation stuff but I didn't really like it all that much. The characters where very complex with no real description. A young adult book series - first one being "Blue Is For Nightmares" is a VERY good suspense book, never misses a beat ( : all the books in that series do, (there are four).

properly, you decide on another Boleyn lady via Phillipa Gregory...this is on the subject of the upward thrust and fall of Anne Boleyn advised from the perspective of her sister Mary Boleyn, and this is tremendously sturdy. It has each and all the climate you listed.
