Help - camera damaged...?

My lovely new camera and tripod fell and there is now a scratch across the coating on the lens, does anyone think I can get this repaired or replaced? It was a xmas present so very new.

Camera is model Canon PowerShot SX120 IS

Update:

You're right that I dont' notice it very much during daylight shots, but at night on macro (I do lots of mood lighting model photography) there is a very noticeable scratch mark right in the middle where the subject usually is.

Thanks for your answers so far tho :)

I shouldn't worry about it, you will likely not notice at all. Have a look at this link, the first two images then the lens that took the photos..

You see!. Nothing to worry about.

Sucks doesn't it accidents happen in life. Last year I had my tripod blown over, bent my camera and snapped my lens clean off it's mount (thats what happens to heavy lenses).

If it's only front element damage don't worry about it at all, shouldn't show up at all. If any of the mechanicals aren't damaged don't worry about it, an accidental damage claim on the insurance will probably be rather costly (more than the cost of replacing a camera) in the long run.

For most things you probably won't even notice a scratch on the lens coating.

Try it for a while to see, before panicking.

Check whether it's insured. House insurance might cover it.

Or if the person who bought it used a credit card, that might cover it.

    Edit ***************

If it spoils your photography, bite the bullet, confess and hope the insurance pays. They'll probably simply replace it.

Though the toppling tripod hasn't happened to me, I have had some near misses....
