Does your cat imitate human behavior?

This video shows a little kitten waking up so sweetly, it just melts my heart. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBeRc4Dhc2M

My big guy..a 25 lb. Maine Coon (large breed) is very sweet, too, and will just lie next to me watching my face until I open my eyes. He just gently puts his paw over my arm and waits. My daughter's cat jumps all over her. I noticed my cat Simon likes to sit at the table when we eat but will later jump down for his own food. At the sound of the TV going off, he trots himself off to bed and gets there first, waiting to claim his spot. Loves pillows and blankets, too. Do cats imitate us??

My cats are too smart to imitate the lifestyle I have. They get to sleep in a nice warm bed while I am awake searching for jobs in ten degree (wind chill factor) weather.

In the summer time I come in weak from heat exhaustion due to playing golf yet they are in a cool comfortable area.

They eat healthy. My night time meal consists of something vegan washed down by a cold beer.

That clip was too cute.Makes me want to rescue a Persian if I had room.

Cats are just so intelligent and I don't doubt that your kitty with that high I.Q. is imitating your behavior. Maine Coons are very intelligent, by the way.

But even though cats have superior brains, they also have minds of their own. Some prefer other delightful behaviors that are so different than their feline companions.

Cats also are very schedule oriented. I have an Oriental Shorthair named Hush Puppy, who knows that bedtime is playing with the laser toy time. He goes into the bedroom and waits patiently for me to finish what I am doing and get ready for bed... and he is always sitting right next to the cabinet in which I store the toy. He MUST get his 10 minutes of special playtime before he will settle down and go to sleep on the bed.

Your cat Simon sounds like a real treasure.

I have a maine coon also, and he is so funny, I moved the cat's food bowl today, and he doesn't like change so after he saw me move it to the floor instead of the counter, he just stood on the counter and stared at me like, put my food back. He finally gave up and took a bite, but went back to the counter and just started me down. It was too funny. I think they do have a lot of human traits, like children or old men (my cat is an old man). The maine coon are pretty much known for being different, they are so calm and collected. Mine avoids confrontation with other cats, he's getting old too, so he won't play with my younger cat he just gets away from her, he is just like an old grumpy man with the other cat. It's hilariousness. My main Coone is smaller though, he's only 15 lbs and he's a pretty big fella, so your cat has to be a monster. I would love to get another one to add to the household, mostly one as big as yours. wow! :)

You have an extraordinary cat with all that awesome behavior. Your cat is very normal for a Maine Coon. Be happy and enjoy his love. I have a male gray tabby and a Russian Blue female. The male acts like a human while the female acts like an alien. I just adjust to their needs and love them both.

    Good Luck

I act like a cat sometimes and sometimes not, as long as they always know I have complete love for them. I am 50 (lol) and on occassion will crawl around following them - they give me a weird look, but have gotten used to it. I do the head butting and rubbing my cheek on their cheeks. When they gently nip the fingers ('cause they want you to clean them), I do; I know all of their meows and could swear I'm saying something to them by how they respond. One tone of meow seems to make them all happy. Awwww, Just loving them always - I have 6 with special needs (5 needing daily, some 2x/day) medications for life, so I {{{sigh}}} have to be a human at those times, but heck, live life and love those cats! I know all the cat-language as well (that the long answerer wrote) and guessing you do, too. What's fun is to divert them back into a happy mood if they're flicking their tail. You can also stare into a cats eyes and it won't be intimidating if you blink slowly-they won't take it as a threat, they will know you're wanting to be friends. If you don't blink, well, you know. Have fun with your beloved cat! As long as my knees hold up, I'll be their friend, "cat-woman" and follow them around the rest of my (and their) lives. :o)

My cat does the same thing but he likes to sit on the couch like a human does with his arm on the arm rest. My cat also loves to headbutt me and he likes to just be a human cat. Of course its normal but my female cat sits on the floor with her legs open like a human sits on a chair. Plus when I'm brushing my hair my cat likes to rub his face all over his neck to brush his fur. Plus my female loves Q-Tips and she rubs her head on it.

Cats love their habits and routines. They often pick up subtle hints from us, they are extremely sensitive to our body language.

I don't know that it's imitating human behaviour but to me it's rather a case of knowing our routines and adapting to them, especially if we keep the same routines daily.
