Keeping a supply of Febreze on hand to refresh all those stinky fabrics can get expensive...so what do you do?
Odor control in hot weather...what to do when you run out of Febreze? Make your own>>>
1/8 cup of fabric softener (Downy April Fresh is good, but you could use your favorite)
2 Tablespoons of baking soda
Hot tap water
Spray bottle (use an empty 27 oz Febreze bottle or one similar)
Then....using a funnel, pour the fabric softener & baking soda into the bottle. Fill with hot tap water...shake up well. (Don't forget to twist the nozzle over to LOCK position if using the Febreze bottle!)>>>>>>now spray away anything that needs de-odorizing!
Cost: buying Febreze @a store - $5.59
Making your own - $ .15
Total savings>>>>>>>>>>>>>. $5.44 or 97.3%
Is this something worth trying?? :D
4 AnswersCleaning & Laundry9 years agoOrganizing cleaning supplies....do you do it?
Sometimes it's hard to keep track of all the different cleaning supplies when stored under the sink. Having a bucket or one of those bucket-type things with a handle where you carry items in helps.....but I'm thinking>>how about taking one of those over- the- door, plastic see-through shoe storage racks and filling each compartment with a cleaning item. Could hold a lot and you'd be able to see them right away---even those seldom-used items.
Just think: window cleaner, Lysol spray, multi-purpose cleaner, floor cleaner, oxy-clean, furniture polish, disinfecting wipes, shoe polish, kitchen de-greaser, even microfiber cloths and magic erasers all in one spot!....no bending, no stooping to search and find. Having a bucket stored in the closet will help you to put just those needed items in when you're about to use them.
1 AnswerCleaning & Laundry9 years agoThe Apple Peeler machine...what do you think?
My grocery store just marked down some apple peeler gizmos...the ones that peel, core and slices apples and potatoes to $6! (They were originally $20!). I never had one and always did things "the old-fashioned way". I always meant to get one....and now just couldn't pass up this great deal (says it's guaranteed for 5 yrs). I also picked up 2 more for each of my daughters.
So in your opinion are they really easy to use and effective? I was thinking when giving it to them I'd make some kind of apple treat to send along with it. I've made those great apple strudels from puffpastry.com but would like an idea for something to fill an 8 inch baking dish (I'd rather do that than a pie.) Any suggestions will be much appreciated as I try out my new kitchen gadget...thanks :).
3 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoWhat kind of wiper blades to use for winter (lots of snow here, car is outdoors)?
I guess I had regular blades on...but driver's side is streaking too much>> I guess that's a sign it needs replacing? The other one is fine, but I may as well do both at the same time. I remember having those thick rubber ones at some point in time, but heard they don't clear the window very good when it rains. So now there's such a thing as wipers that "don't freeze"? Does that mean they don't stick to the windows? Will they hold up even though it's not a thick coat of rubber? Is buying the better blades worth it? Thanks for any input ;).
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoWoman here needing info about buying device that starts car & heats for winter?
I don't know anything about them and I live in "snow country" NYState. I'd like to have one installed in my son-in-law's new car as he takes my infant granddaughter to daycare daily. What do I need to know about these devices? Who installs them and approximately what should I expect to pay? It'd be nice to have the car warmed up and partially defrosted before putting the baby in the car....and it'll be an early Christmas gift :D. Thanks for any info!
6 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoIs everyone aware of the pet product recalls for dogs announced from July 4th?
In case anyone has any of these products, you might want to read this article to ensure your pet is safe from harm>>>http://www.examiner.com/x-39124-Providence-Headlin...
I became aware of it because I subscribe to a pet-holistic site that alerts me .
5 AnswersDogs1 decade agoWhat are some good ways to make use of zucchini?
Have you ever made any good cold salads with them? Favorite ways of cooking? It's a great vegetable, but I never see them mentioned much - but the garden is going to have a good crop so we want to have some good ways to make use of them (besides sharing with neighbors ;).
18 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoCoffee theme Continental breakfast ideas?
Having out-of-towners over this weekend and before they head back, I'd like to serve them a Continental breakfast with a coffee theme (as we are all avid coffee lovers!). I do have one recipe for a coffee cake made with coffee batter in a bundt pan and center is filled with vanilla coffee beans to enhance the aroma...but that's all I have.
I'd like a creative thing to put on the table for decor and any other clever, cute, useful ideas, menu suggestions. We'll be about 20 (4 are kids). (We're having a baby shower the day before, but this continental breakfast is for us :D). Any help is appreciated.
1 AnswerNon-Alcoholic Drinks1 decade agoWindow washer product that attaches to a hose?
What is the name of it....and is it any good? Will it clean through with screens on? What if there are flower beds beneath the windows: is it safe to use?
I've always had to take the windows out to clean them, but if this method is another way to do it and it's easier, I'll try it if anyone cares to share their experiences about it.
3 AnswersOther - Home & Garden1 decade agoCleaning products that DO what they say they're going to do....or NOT?
Two wonderful products come to mind that actually keep their promise to help with the cleaning process: One has been around for quite awhile and we all know it: Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser and the other great product is Pledge's PET ERASER. (It does a fabulous job of picking up the fur!!); however it falls short because it's "disposable"). Who wants to keep throwing plastic away? :(
Cheaters like me, though, pry an end up to remove the fur once it's filled (expected to last 3 weeks they say), and re-use it. The plastic is similar to those containers deli meats come in nowadays.
Any other product that has "WOW'd" you we should know about? Or your thoughts on these?
5 AnswersCleaning & Laundry1 decade agoHave you ever had your cat get a buzz cut?
One summer I decided it was so hot that my cat had to be hating the heat, too....especially with his 3 coats of fur. He's a long-haired Maine Coon and very large in size. So I took him to the vet (2 of us to carry him in a large cage...but now I have one on wheels) and the groomer did a "buzz cut" on him and styled him to look like a lion. LOL....he looked so darn cute! He has that big mane around his head to pull it off. I didn't do his tail, though--left that full and fluffy and I didn't want him looking like a poodle.
The groomer said that people who show their cats often bring them in for those buzz cuts. The cat actually loved it! He was running around here all happy and feeling light!
So has anyone else ever done this? For short hair I wouldn't think you'd need to....but THIS cat has mounds of fur!!

12 AnswersNon-Alcoholic Drinks1 decade agoWhich is considered to be the "Right side" of a bed?
Is it the right side when you're lying down in it?......or is it the right side when you're standing at the foot of the bed looking at it from that view? And what about the old expression "Getting up on the wrong side of the bed" (which side was THAT? the left?).
1 AnswerDecorating & Remodeling1 decade agoMy 2nd question is: Where do I find a LARGE cat carrier than I can handle to transport my cat who's 25 lb?
It's bad enough I can't even carry HIM! ;D....my daughter used to help me and we'd put him into one of those fold up kennels for medium size dogs. We'd each take an end and cart the Big Gallute to the vet for his check-ups, but now she's expecting a baby (the daughter, not the cat) and I'll need to do it alone ...ugh. I tried putting a med size dog harness on him, but he won't walk with one on--just lies there. I may need something with wheels on it--and not too costly. He's tall and long and "girthy"--much larger than any small dog. Help!
10 AnswersCats1 decade agoDoes your cat imitate human behavior?
This video shows a little kitten waking up so sweetly, it just melts my heart. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBeRc4Dhc2M
My big guy..a 25 lb. Maine Coon (large breed) is very sweet, too, and will just lie next to me watching my face until I open my eyes. He just gently puts his paw over my arm and waits. My daughter's cat jumps all over her. I noticed my cat Simon likes to sit at the table when we eat but will later jump down for his own food. At the sound of the TV going off, he trots himself off to bed and gets there first, waiting to claim his spot. Loves pillows and blankets, too. Do cats imitate us??
8 AnswersCats1 decade agoBest food items to start out with for a well-stocked kitchen?
I don't need appliance suggestions...Something I'm doing to help my daughter get started in her new home. There are always basics (like flour, sugar,) and then there's those items that you never think about until you reach for them. The list can include perishables, too. And a good way to present them to her? She deserves the help--she worked very hard to get the house in shape to move into.
2 AnswersOther - Food & Drink1 decade agoWhat are some good household tips to know for the kitchen/or cooking?
I'd like to compile some ideas for a daughter who just moved into her first home--I'm making a book for her and plan to break it down into categories, so I need your favorite tips! Things like: Measuring Cups--Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water.
Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such
as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out. Or like Reheating Bread-To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in
a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food
moist and help it reheat faster. Or Bananas:separate them from the bunch so they don't ripen as fast. Green peppers: those with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter than those with 4 bumps. What are your favorites?
4 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoHow should I present a special baby shower gift to my daughter?
I have a blanket that was made for my daughter when she was born and saved it for when she would someday have a child of her own. That day is coming and I wonder how to present the blanket as a gift to her? I don't want to just wrap it in a cardboard box. Is there some special "container" that might even act as an additional keepsake I could use? How about a little poem....anyone got any ideas? Could also use some clever ideas for throwing a baby shower---games, how to give away door prizes, clever ideas for foods, etc. Please share!

3 day old pups are so adorable! But what size will they grow up to be? Have all features of the daddy Pit Bull. Both parents of gentle nature.
