You can spend all of your money on a car, if you wish.
Some people would say that in buying any new car, you are spending too much trying to impress someone with your new car. Used cars only a year or two old sell for half of a new car, and may be almost as good. Examine your reasons for buying a new car.

A person can spend a ridiculous amount on a new car if they have enough money for it. There are new cars out there that are well over the million dollar mark. If one has enough money to throw away on a million dollar car, to each their own i suppose. If you have billions of dollars, and like...1.5 million to spare on a new car, by all means feel free to buy one of above said cars lol For instance, there's the Koenigsegg Trevita that goes for 2.21 million:

If you look under "Elite Supercars" - click on the link they have for the car-it looks amaaazing.
Otherwise, you can find a new car, a good one too, in like...the $23,000 range.

If you're only buying it to impress someone else, then any money at all is too much.

It all depends on your income. As long as your car payments aren't going to be a HUGE financial burden, you haven't spent too much.

Paying anything for something specific that you won't/can't use is paying too much: Zero to 60 in 3.4 seconds; 251 mph top speed.
