MOUSE/CAMERA & USB RANDOMLY STOP WORKING?

hi, my mouse stopped working in the usb port, and at the same time so did my camera. changed usb ports for mouse and camera then worked for few days, but now stopped again even though the mouse was in a different port, the camera also stopped working again. are the usb's faulty or is it the mouse? and if so why does the camera usb port also stop working at the same time? many thanks

Update:

forgot to say they all work in the usb port that they stopped working in after i reboot pc

Update 2:

don't think it's a driver problem as all up to date and worked for months with no probs.

Update 3:

already tried it and no problems found in device manager and all updated

I agree with Kelly. USB ports can sometimes be unpredictable. One minute they can be OK the next minute all over the place.

However I'm surprised that you got them to work by sticking them in another slot. Normally when you load software for something using a USB port, the drivers allocate that port. If you change ports the software should be reinstalled so the correct port can be allocated again.

It's either the overall controller for the USB ports is playing up or the drivers in general.

Control Panel ► System ► Hardware ► Device Manager ► Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

Expand it and you will have to go through each one individually. Highlight each one in turn and click on the Properties icon in the menu bar. It show if there are any problem etc. Also you will be able to update the drivers.

Generally if the problem was with the mouse or camera, they would stop working all together, not just intermittently.

USB connections in general are very flakey.

This is likely just a driver issue for your USB controllers (its in the device manager, last category).

EDIT: When you check the device manager "the device is working properly" just means that your computer sees that something is there, that doesn't always mean its working as it should.

I still say its a driver, the windows driver isn't always the best driver to use. The best one is usually the maker of the computer or motherboard.

Check with your manufacturer for an updated or the correct driver for it.

Its possible to have 1 USB port that is actually bad but VERY unlikely that multiple ones are.

run gadget supervisor bypass to usb and notice if the change ports off whilst no longer in use button is checked homestead windows usually switches the ports off and that they do no longer come on returned till you re-boot
