What is the best bet on the Kentucky Derby Futures Pool 1 this weekend?
I know, I know we've been over this the past few years, and admit it is one of the worst sucker horse bets in racing, that being said, anyone going to fall for it? I'm still not sure but I would probably wager on #24 the Mutual Field if I am going to wager on this pool at all.

Yup, a suckers bet. But in terms of a Derby contender at this point, I say:
Vale of York (30-1) From the Godolphin stable, did well on the grass in Europe last year, then beat North American horse of the year Lookin At Lucky in the Breeders Cup Juvenile. If he can transition from poly to dirt as well as he transitioned to from grass to poly -- he's a clear threat.
Drosselmeyer (20-1) A Distorted Humor/Moscow Ballet colt obviously bred to go far. Mott conditioned, has improved in every start so far. Yet to face graded competition, but yet to peak either.

I like Silver City as a long shot. And my top choice right now is Old Fashioned, but I will also be watching Chocolate Candy on his next time out.
