Side effects of Loestrin24Fe... anyone else had this problem?

I've been taking Loestrin birth control pills and I'm just moving into my third week. Since the third or fourth day of taking these pills I've noticed (and so has my family) that I've become extremely moody. Sometimes I go through 2 to 6 severe mood swings a day. From an extreme happy to a very extreme depressed almost suicidal mood at times. I know it's just my body adjusting to the hormones in the pill and I have enough self control not to do something stupid, but I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem while taking birth control? If you did, how long did it take to go away?

    Oh gosh...

Well I took Sprintec for about 6 months. The mood swings came on quickly in the first few weeks (these were mild) but then about month 4 I started getting really depressed like you're describing. I felt unsocial, ugly, isolated, angry, etc. It was awful. It was to the point of affecting my school (I dropped out of the semester). I talked to my dr, switched to a new pill and I felt like I was coming out of a fog! It was ridiculous how much of a difference a switch made.

I am now on Nuva Ring and LOVE it so far. NOOO depression or mood swings at all. Wonderful.

I would try it another month and if you are still experiencing the mood swings, see if your doctor will let you try another pill. You could be reacting to some component or chemical in this pill that another one might not have.

For me, switching was the only thing that made the moods go away...I would give it another month and if it's still happening try something different. There are so many pills out there and you can find one that works really well for you.

I have taken this birth control pill, and I loved it. I didn't get any side effects, but everyone reacts differently to any type of medicine. Perhaps you should speak with your doctor and switch to a different one. Going from extremely happy to extremely sad is a no-no. If I was going through that I would have told my doctor.

    Source(s): taken it for a year :)
