my 12 month old falls from stairs. vomits 2 hours later!!!!?

my 12 month old was climbing up the steps & she turns the corner so i no longer see her. so i dont know if she fell 3 or 4 steps! the stairs are carpet but its covered with plastic mats. she hits the left side of her face & head when she falls. her forehead had a scraped a little. & she has red marks on her cheeks. she cries for less than a minute & is fine.

my sister took her to bed maybe 45 min later because it was nap time.

she only drank 2 ounces of milk then pushed the bottle away n fell asleep.

she usually has 6. two hours later i put her in the walker and she cries like crazy then throws up a lot.

then an hour later i fed her 4 ounces of milk & probably 20 min later she starts vomitting. before bed i fed her formula & afterwards she puked like crazY!! i have no idea whats wrong.

She does have a history of vomitting a lot when she cries, is overfed, or coughs. the last time she puked was a few days ago because she coughed to hard. but hasnt since then.

so could this fall be the reason she vomitts?? could somethin be wrong?? or is it just her.

the thing that has changed after the fall was that she drank a lot less!! tomorrow is sunday so i cant call doctor. she hasnt puked in 3 days or so. now shes vomitting again & drinkin a lot less and i keep thinkin if it has to do with the fall. could she have a head injury??

In a case like this, I would take her straight to the Emergency Room at the nearest hospital. This could be from the fall, and is very likely, if she is vomiting this much. Throwing up from crying, coughing, or being overfed, is normal, but she has had an accident, and I wouldn't take the chance of it being nothing.

Was she hard to wake up after the fall? Usually, if the child goes to sleep after a fall, and they are hard to wake up, it could be a sign of a concussion. I would rather be safe than sorry.

  • hopefully you're not reading this because you're already at the hospital.. but she needs to be taken to the er... even if its NOT due to the fall.. this much vomiting from a little one is dangerous. she hasnt eaten anything, she isnt drinking.. but shes puking...

it COULD be a stomach flu.. in which case it could dehydrate her ... and dehydration happens sooo fast in babies. this is why its advised they get the flu shot because they have a hard time surviving the flu due to dehydration.. please get her help NOW before its too late

ive called the doctor before bc my son has had sooo many falls in the 21 months hes been alive.. they say that if they have any of the following after a fall or head injury, to take them to the nearest ER immediately: persistent vomiting, become delirious, are hard to wake, pupils dont dialate (if you shine a light into her eyes, her pupil - the black part of her eye - should get small. and when the ligth is removed, it should get large again..)

I am a kid but i think she dose so sunday if she vomitts agian take a sample of the vomitt and on monday take her to the doctor or hospital and give them the vomitt and let them check her...

    ER NOW.

We JUST went through this Monday with my son. Repeated and/or projectile vomit after a fall is NOT GOOD.

(And Im one to put going to a DR or ER off as long as possible. GO NOW!!!)

If she has persistant vomiting, it could be linked to head trauma. I'd probably call a doctor to be safe, but don't worry, it could be nothing.

    GO to the doctor.

It is very possible--bring her to an emergency room immediately. The cost if she's actually uninjured is nothing compared to the possible cost if she is.

go to the ER before she gets worse... this happened to my baby cousin also and needed surgery.

  • maybe go to a doct cause that vomiting could lead to dehydration

She might be sick with like the flu or something. However, I would call the "on call" nurse or doctor, I would be worried to.
