Your stories/experiences?

I went to a coffee shop today, I told the lady I was a vegetarian and she popped my food in the oven to heat it, I got it, started eating it, then thought, wtf this tastes weird. I looked at it for a minute, and WTF it was beef in my food! I brought it up to her and she totally freaked out she felt so bad, someone had switched the labels. She refunded my money and everything, and THANK GOD I didn't eat it all, but I still threw up and I still feel sick. The meat made me VERY sick, puking etc...

I feel so so bad, and it was not my fault in any way. My question is, what are you stories or experiences with that, did you get sick when you are meat by accident? I've been a strict veg for over 6 months, without any relapses. What's your opinion on what happened to me. Thank you.

I've accidentally eaten meat before, but not enough to make me sick (luckily). What happened to you is completely normal. You haven't eaten meat in 6 months and your body doesn't know how to digest it anymore. All you did was put something "foreign" into your body and your body rejected it. If you ever feel like you want to eat meat again, take it in stride. Start small- chicken mixed with veggies, but not a full piece of chicken. Don't feel bad, it's not your fault at all.

I went to a steakhouse once and got the Four Veg Plate. I made sure there was no meat in the salad and told the waitress I was a vegetarian. When she brought out my dinner, I had green beans on the side. The green beans had bacon in them! Um, hello! lol. I felt bad she had to take them back, but I even told her from the get-go! lol. Never, ever feel like you're the one being difficult when you tell someone you're a veg.

so you mean, you tasted it? well, things like hat happen thats why i don`t eat out. you know some restaurants use the same frier to fry seafood, chicken cutlets and stuff. one time, i went to a mexican restaurant and ordered vegetarian burrito. it has pinto beans (no lard), rice, cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream and guacamole. and i asked if there is any chicken stock or if they cook it on the same grill where they cook the meats and seafood. they said no. when i got my burrito, i sliced it opened, i smell something with chicken stock in it. if i had not check it, i would have eaten it. i asked for a refund nicely but the owner of the restaurant is very insensitive about my situation. He cursed me and gave my refund back. i felt upset after that and i pesonally don`t think it is right to lie to the customers especially if it really matters. i know the situation is hard and he was trying to earn money but he needs to respect his customers too. everyone of them.

common sense in exile: i haven't eating meat in 5 years. once i got this chickpea and rice meal to go at this place. i asked them if it had meat broth in it and they said no. it tasted funny so i didn't eat it all but later i felt sick and couldn't figure out why. the next day my vegetarian friend when to the same place and asked them the same thing and they said it had meat broth in it. i had no idea why i felt sick and definitely didn't think it was because i ate meat so i couldn't have been in my head.

and meat isn't just protein, maybe it was the high fat content.

There was this New Year eve party in a Chinese restaurant in Lagos, Nigeria where I was working. One item on the menu: 'dumplings' with both veg/non-veg fillings was being served. We were on a table that was supposed to receive only veg dishes but a prankish friend switched the plates and I got to eat a dumpling with beef ! The moment I took a bite, I found something was amiss and looked at the offender who was sneering at me! Promptly went to the loo, spat out what I had in my mouth, gargled with saline water, thought I have purified and continued eating the veg dishes. IT IS ALL IN YOUR MIND!

Psychosomatic. Eating meat will not physically or medically produce these symptoms. You've probably consumed other meat or animal products in the past 6 months, by accident without your real knowledge, and had no such reaction.

Protein is not a foreign matter to the human body, it requires it. Your reaction was 100% mental, not physical. And no matter how many thumbs-down this answer receives by proud vegetarians and vegans, it's also 100% correct and factual.
