Choosing wood laminate flooring?

I have been researching this for a while and don't want to depend on customer reviews from the websites I have visited. Anyone out there that has had a good experience with wood laminate floors? Please give name brand and where you purchased it from. I want a dark laminate wood with or without padding.

I have put down two different laminate floors.

One was Pergo (looked like tile) and I dont remember the name of the other.

I found the Pergo to be very difficult to lock together (it might be easier if you had help), but very durable.

The other was easy to assemble, was inexpensive, but it has not worn terribly well.

If you are going to do the floors yourself, you really need to go look at the laminate in person, and try putting two samples together to see how it works. I tested one sample in a showroom, and it was impossible to click together (needless to say, I did not buy that one.)

The place where you buy the flooring may be able to give references, as well, so you can see how well the floor wears.

If you can afford to put in a porcelain tile then you can do a hard wood. And when you say a laminate wood, I assume you mean a engineered wood which is a laminated wood as opposed to a laminate which is a good product when you get a mid range to a high end product. But to answer your question, I d do the earthy tile since you have a natural stone look in your kitchen and earthy tones in the walls and carpet, I wouldn t go dark..At least a mid tone or lighter wood flooring if you go that route. I have installed laminate flooring in my kitchen. Looks ok, but if I were to do it again, I would use natural wood. I installed a snap together bamboo floating floor in my bedroom about a year ago. I am very happy with the results. Don't remember the brand name, but I got at home depot.

I'm not real big on laminate but, every so often I get a customer who insists on it.

I've installed Mohawk brand flooring and found it to be good. Its a snap together system with easy to follow directions. I suggest you use the padding and remember to leave space at edges. You can get it at Home Depot. Good Luck !

I put down a pergo floor. (home depot) but others sell it. I like it, cleans easy. and was easy to install. Just don't spill water on it and waite to long to wipe it up. It will make the floor swell
