Is anyone watching the Olympics on both NBC and another network? How do they compare?

I live in the mid-Atlantic, so I can only receive NBC's Olympic coverage. The pandering to the US market is nauseating. The only competitors shown are the Americans and any others who just happen to win medals. If the medal podium is devoid of Americans, there's a lot of rationalizing why they came up short and why their weak performance was, in fact, very impressive. (I guess this is what local broadcasts of Dallas Cowboys or New York Yankees games are like.)

Their low mark was last night. NBC dedicated a large block of prime time to a lengthy and often pointless interview with Hannah Kearney, who won the gold medal winner of women's moguls the previous night. Later in the same broadcast, they went to Cris Collinsworth for his impressions of Kearney's award ceremony.

So my question is to those who can see both NBC's and another network, e.g. CBC, BBC, NHK, etc. How do they compare? Are other networks as nationalistic or sensationalistic as NBC?

NBC seems determined to show events until an American wins gold, then they fawn and cloy over that achievement, deliberately ignoring all other events underway. They are more intent on making celebrities rather than covering sports.

This NBC coverage is PATHETIC in the US. I completely agree with you. I have actually been DVRing everything just so I can fast forward to the actual sports. I can say that I have been watching hockey on MBNBC and CNBC and there are much fewer commercials, which is nice!

On Saturday night, we DVRed the olympics and watched the Devils game live, and it was not over until 9:30. We caught up to the live Olympics before the coverage was even over because of fast forwarding through a million commercials. It is like 2 minutes of coverage and then 5 of commercials. UGH!!

I'm in the UK so I am not watching NBC, but being an American I am very familiar with their coverage. The BBC is quite different:

    1) No commericals!!!

    2) Greater focus on live action. Thus far every event has been available live through digital TV and online.

    3) Very few interviews and athlete profiles. This is largely due to there being few competitive British athletes in these Games (3 medals is an optimistic projection for Team GB).

    4) Nationalism? When Britain does have successful athletes, as they did in Beijing, the BBC does highlight their achievements, but not to anywhere near the extent and the US networks.

I don't think CBC is broadcasting any events, I've yet to see any there. I'm switching between CTV, and TSN. The CTV guys seem alot more involved whereas the TSN people sound quite bored... it's almost discouraging. I dont think we have NBC
