Severe mood swings from medication... can't control myself, what do I do?
I've been taking a new birth control pill for almost 3 weeks now. It's allegedly the one birth control out there with the lowest dose of estrogen, which from what I hear is what causes the mood swings. Lately I've been having these extreme mood swings (along with literally every other side effect that can possibly be caused by the pill) and I've been unintentionally lashing out at friends and family. I feel terrible about it because I've been saying and doing things I normally wouldn't... the other day I made my mom cry, and this weekend I'm pretty sure I really hurt my best friend. Even though I apologize to everyone I still feel terrible about it and I don't think they feel my apology was heartfelt because honestly I've been and still am being the biggest ***** on the planet. This isn't me!!
I was considering taking a different type of pill but now I'm afraid that since this is the lowest dose pill (Loestrin24 Fe) any other pill will just be worse, and have worse symptoms, and then I really won't know what to do. Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do to fix it? Would it be better to try and switch to another pill or just stop taking them altogether?

Birth control takes a while to really start working normally so if you've only tried it 3 weeks it might not have regulated yet, however when I first started taking BC I changed brands like 5 times to find one that worked better. Yaz has helped me with my mood the most and I've been on it like 2 years now even though there's all those commercials about pulmonary embolism and heart attack from it but whatever I keep taking it because all birth controls cause a risk for those problems especially with smokers.

Switch to a different birth control pill brand. When you go to your doctor and tell them that Ortho is making you very emotional they will have you try something else. The first pill I was on made me cry about anything, everything and nothing all the time. Funny though, I switched to Ortho Cyclen and my emotions are much more normal. It just depeneds on your body, and obviously Ortho Cyclen is not for you.

You should speak with your doctor about this. If the side effects are as bad as you say, you may not be a good candidate for the pill.
