Vancouver 2010 ... Worst olympics ever?

Would you agree that Canada along with NBC have hosted and covered the worst olympics ever? even before it started there was a death, then the failing cauldron lighting... terrible weather conditions are an on going problem, cant even keep the ice right for the speed skaters... and the coverage has been awful having to switch from one channel to another to catch the rest of the sport you were just watching that got interupted by something lame like figure skating...

It's not just a blind hate for Canada. I love Canada but this IS the worst Olympics I've ever seen. Just today, repeated mix up by officials in biathlon on top of all the problems the original poster mentioned. Things like weather can't be avoided but the facility and the officials are definitely not ready! Every athletes complains about the snow in skiing and skating. Just the other day, news about Canadians complaining how expensive it is to host. If you're not going to be ready, don't host. There are plenty of other countries who would love to host and do it right.

And no matter what everyone says, the Luge accident was the fault of the track. If it wasn't and track is as safe as they claim, why did they cover up the steel beams and put up the walls AFTER the accident? Those should've been in place BEFORE the accident. I would love to see Olympics NEVER to be hosted in Canada.

Also, NBC needs to stop saying Apollo Ohno is the most "DECORATED" winter Olympian. That's an insult to Bonny Blair. Bonny Blair won 5 gold. Ohno only 2 gold. And one of them he didn't even win. By what standard is 3rd place same as 1st? Which leads to another point. US needs to stop doing the "overall" medal count to rank the countries. 10 bronze is better than 9 gold? So, our hockey team should just go for bronze right? Ironically, in 1962 Olympics when US lead in gold but lost in overall medals, we conveniently switched the system to "gold count"

Can I start by saying Canada is the second largest country in the world divided into multiple provinces and territories. British Columbia, the home of Vancouver and Whistler, is the westernmost province. Us Albertans had very little to do with the Olympics, neither did Saskatchewan, Manitoba etc.

To answer the question, yes, the Olympics are sucking hard, mostly because of mother nature, this of course is not so much Vancouver’s fault as it is the IOC's Vancouver's climate is almost always warm/rainy in February, did they think they were going to get lucky?

The death is/isn't Vancouver's fault. The designer who designed the luge track has designed 6 successful Olympic tracks before with no deaths. Likewise Canadians, Americans and various other countries have been using the track just fine. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but chances are the crash was as a result of the Georgian athletes inexperience and mis-calculation.

The mechanical failing in the opening ceremonies was quite embarrassing. Even more embarrassing was Wayne Gretzky's seemingly bored attitude as he was carrying the torch. Likewise C.O.C. attitudes towards allowing other countries to practice in the venues has been quite alarming.

The Vancouver Olympic committee decided they wanted to have the first "Green Games", you know to go with all that environmental pressure the world is feeling lately, as such they decided to go with unproven Olympia electrical (rather than combustible) powered zambonies. As we can see, that was not the best choice. I blame the pinko-commy-enviroterrorists. :D

I'm not American so I watch the Olympics on CTV. Can't answer you there. Once again Canada is not ruining the Olympics, blame the weather, blame the I.O.C., blame British Columbia but don't blame Canada.

I'm getting really tired of people blaming the track for the luge accident. Accidents happen. This one just happened to be tragic. The track has had no more accidents than average, it just happened to be a worse accident than average.

As for the games in general, I think they've done a great job. Other than the one mishap at the opening ceremonies, which was rehearsed successfully a substantial number of times and just happened to have a mechanical failure (it happens people) I found it to be one of the best opening ceremonies I've ever seen. Weather is an issue. The IOC knew it could be an issue, JUST LIKE IT COULD BE AN ISSUE ANYWHERE. They are doing an amazing job dealing with it. And yes, some of the tickets had to be cancelled and it would obviously be horrible for the people who were attending those events, but guess what, it happens with concerts all the time, and people eventually get over it. So get over it, and enjoy the games.

The games have had some glitches and the tragic death but they are not even close to the worst games ever. 72 Munich was tragic, 76 Montreal was horribly mismanaged, 80 Moscow and 84 Los Angels both had half the world missing, 96 Atlanta was very poorly staged. Or how about the '76 Winter Olympics in Denver? You know, when the US couldn't do anything right and had to give up forcing the games to move to Innsbruck?

Weather gets better tomorrow and is supposed to stay nice. Speed skating ice troubles...what can I say, they saved a few bucks and bought an American-made Zamboni. Everyone knows Americans can't build quality vehicles.

As for NBC's coverage - yeah, no excuse for that. But I don't live in the US so it's not my worry.

am i able to start by utilising asserting Canada is the 2nd best u . s . a . interior the international divided into distinctive provinces and territories. British Columbia, the domicile of Vancouver and Whistler, is the westernmost province. Us Albertans had little or no to do with the Olympics, neither did Saskatchewan, Manitoba etc. to respond to the question, confident, the Olympics are sucking no longer elementary, usually simply by fact of mom nature, this of path isn't lots Vancouver’s fault because it incredibly is the IOC's Vancouver's climate is purely approximately continuously heat/wet in February, did they think of they have been going to get fortunate? The death is/isn't Vancouver's fault. The fashion designer who designed the luge song has designed 6 efficient Olympic tracks in the previous without deaths. Likewise Canadians, people and assorted different countries have been utilising the song purely superb. I hate to be the bearer of undesirable information yet hazard is the crash replaced into as a effect of the Georgian athletes inexperience and mis-calculation. The mechanical failing interior the hollow ceremonies replaced into incredibly embarrassing. much extra embarrassing replaced into Wayne Gretzky's doubtless bored physique of recommendations as he replaced into carrying the torch. Likewise C.O.C. attitudes in direction of allowing different countries to coach interior the venues has been incredibly alarming. The Vancouver Olympic committee desperate they wanted to have the 1st "green video games", you recognize to pass with all that environmental tension the international is feeling at the instant, as such they desperate to pass with unproven Olympia electric (incredibly than flamable) powered zambonies. As we are able to work out, that replaced into no longer the perfect selection. I blame the pinko-commy-enviroterrorists. :D i'm no longer American so I watch the Olympics on CTV. can't answer you there. as quickly as back Canada isn't ruining the Olympics, blame the climate, blame the I.O.C., blame British Columbia yet do no longer blame Canada.

No they're not the worst. Things happen. You can't predict that someone is going to lose their life or that the weather is going to be weird (although, Vancouver does have a mild winter climate..an interesting choice but nonetheless a good one I think).

I do agree, though, that NBC is doing a terrible job. There are so many events going on but all that I see time after time is figure skating. Where's the good stuff?

Come on. If you really think it's that bad, stop watching the Olympics! You really think we planned for someone to die? The flame thing was very nice, ok one of the columns didn't work, big deal? Technical diffculties, they happen all the time... And you're hating on the ice because Americans didn't do so great. Canadians didn't win either, but you don't see me bitching about it. Here, we have plenty of channels, and they cover an event at a time, you don't want to watch figure skating, change channels.

The Olympics are great. I just wish NBC would actually show them when they occur. Extremely disappointed in NBC.

piss off, figure skating is the hardest sport in the olympics.

i was about to agree with you until you made that d-bag comment

No. The first Winter Olympics, held in Chamonix, France in 1924, had no TV coverage at all. Can you imagine?
