What to bring on a cruise?
I'm going on my first cruise and I'm not sure what to bring. I know for the islands I'll be wearing my bathing suit and a sundress more than likely, and I know what I'm bringing for dinner. I just need stuff for days at sea and such - like should I bring shorts to wear? How many bathing suits should I bring?
Also if it helps, I am going on the Norweigan Pearl

Packing for a Cruise
Packing for a cruise is like packing for any resort-based vacation. You'll want to bring comfortable, casual clothing for daytime on board and in port, and swimsuits and workout clothes for pools, Jacuzzis, saunas and health clubs. To be prepared for dinner in the dining room, check out Dress Codes.
Think about the kind of shore excursions you plan to take and pack accessories, where appropriate, such as hiking boots, ponchos or rain gear, fleece jackets and snorkel gear. When traveling to tropical areas, such as in Central and South America, it's a good idea to carry insect repellent.
Pack all of your medications, prescription or otherwise, in a bag you can carry onto your flights. Obtain extra prescriptions from your physician for any medications you are currently taking and carry them with you.
Most ships have 110-volt outlets in every cabin, which will accommodate U.S.-built hairdryers, travel irons and electric shavers. Most new ships provide hairdryers as well.
Bring a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses for bright, sunny days on deck. You'll have many opportunities to have your picture taken by the ship's photographers, but you'll naturally want to bring your own camera or video camera as well.

Get hold of a Berlitz travel book by Douglas Ward, called "Ocean Cruising and Cruise Ships" which is issued anually - find it in a library or have a sneaky look in a book shop because it is expensive being a huge paper back - getting on for 700 pp
All the Norwegian cruise ships are listed, described, given star ratings and point ratings, a description of the ship, entertainment on board, etc.
It sounds as though the Norwegian line is pretty casual - the note is made that the waiters are often dressed better than the guests!
So usual beach holiday gear, usual toiletries. Perhaps a couple of pretty things for going to the Shows in the evenings - described as plenty of razzle dazzle in content - a stole maybe for evening walks on deck.

-Bathing suit
-Bathing suit cover
-Shorts
-T shirts

-I'm assuming theres two formal nights, so two formal outfits
-A bag (big) to carry with you onto the islands to hold towels and such
-Flip flops, flats, heals

They will have shampoo and conditioner on there, but it won't be very good :S so bring your own if you want to

- Staightener, curling iron
1-3 bathing suits is fine.

Sure you can bring shorts. I would take a couple of swim suits. It's nice to have a change. Make sure you bring comfortable shoes. Have fun.

One thing you should be sure to have with you is at least one outfit that's warm, even if it's sweats, a light jacket and long pants, etc. Have some kind of wrap for formal nights. It can get kind of chilly on board if they turn up the AC, or even kind of chilly and breezy out on decks. Even in your room, although you can adjust that.

Shorts, 'kinis, halters, and t-shirts. Plus flip flops. You should be good to go.
