How come some Olympic events are listed as "women's" and others are listed as "ladies'"?
You can see what I'm talking about here: http://www.vancouver2010.com/olympic-schedule-resu...
Strangely, I don't see any "gentlemens'" events.

The naming of the events is up to the International Federation that runs the sport. Both the International Skating Union (ISU) and International Ski Federation (FIS) use the term ladies, thus we have ladies figure and speed skating and alpine and cross-country skiing events. Other federations, like biathlon and ice hockey use the term women's, thus their female events are listed as women's.

Going through those I noticed that somethings just roll of the tongue easier.
Ladies Speed Skating vs. Women's Speed Skating. Although Ladies Luge rolls off the tongue easier than Women's Luge! It's an interesting question though. I had never noticed the difference!
Maybe it just stems from what the sport has always been designated as in it's own circle.
