If your tower is 8 years old, It might be hard locating the RAM you need. Depending what your specs are right now, it might not be worth the upgrade. If you know what RAM you need, you can probably get by on about $30-$50.

The other option is just to do some routine maintenance on your machine. You can probably get by with defragging your computer, running a few maintenance apps (CC cleaner), cleaning up your hard drive.

Read up online about the error and you can quickly find some more in depth procedures for resolving your problem.

Take in mind though, you can probably buy a new machine for around $200.

You need to know ho wmuch actual memory you have - the RAM quickest way is to go to the start menu then select run and type dxdiag. it will bring up a page with tabs and there you will find how much RAM.

If for example it says you have 512mb of RAM then times that by 1.5 which gives you 768

then do this and set the min and max size to 768 in the pagefile.

Regardless how much RAM you always times it by 1.5 then enther that.

    1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

    2. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.

    3. In the Performance pane, click Settings.

    4. In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.

    5. In the Virtual memory pane, click Change.

    6. Change the Initial size value and the Maximum size value to a higher value, click Set, and then click OK.

    7. Click OK to close the Performance Options dialog box, and then click OK to close the System Properties dialog box.

btw your question IS about VIRTUAL memory bot physical memory.

Anyway, you should also try and use lighter versions of everything to maximise your efficiency.

Use avira or avast those have a small footprint compared to norton or avg or macafee.

Use foxit reader instead of adobe acrobat

use media player classic or vlc media player instead of windows media player 10/11

    you get the idea?

    Also do this

    1. Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl in the Open box, and then press ENTER to open the System Properties dialog box.

    2. Click the Advanced tab, and then under Performance click Settings.

    3. Click the Advanced tab, and then under Processor scheduling use one of the following methods:

    * Click Programs to assign more processor resources to the foreground programs. This setting is recommended for most users.

    * Click Background services to assign equal amounts of processor resources to all running services. This includes print jobs and applications.

    4. Click OK to apply preferences and close the dialog box.

You haven't provided any sort of information regarding your type of RAM (memory) installed.

For a system that's at least 5 years old or more - your usually talking about DDR 800 (PC6400).

PC6400 memory is pretty cheap and out-dated compared to the newer triple-channel DDR3 RAM now available for the newer systems.

Your best off finding out the RAM you have installed by going to Crucial's website and then click 'Scan', it will automatically test your hardware and give you the results after the test.

You'll need to determine the type of memory you need. You can find this information out by using http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php Just download it and run it. The information will be displayed in the SPD tab. After that, head to http://www.pricewatch.com/system_memory/ and pick out what you want. The cost to upgrade will be the cost of the ram because ram is very easy to install yourself.
