Do you think racing dirt bikes (in other words motocross) is safe?

i'm trying to convince my parents into letting me race or just even ride dirt bikes. but my mom and stepp dad safe that its to expensive and not safe. on the other hand, my dad said he wouldn't mind paying for everything it's just my safety that hes concerned about. so its seems like safety is the big issue. so i was wondering if anybody knows of anything i can tell them that might help change their mind/your opinion on the sport/advice/if u ride do u have any tips? thanks!

No, not any more. Twenty years ago it was. Nowadays the tracks are not built safely. The other riders, which are different breed of riders than we had twenty years ago, don't ride safely. Today's motocross is no good. Don't bother with it. Give enduros a try. Or better, stick to trail riding.

Hey Katie, motocross will be more dangerous than playing piano but there are actually more injuries in high school football than in motocross. I have been racing since I was 10 and I have had very few injuries. As a matter of fact, I have broken more bones riding my mountain bike than I have racing. The best advice I can give is just see if your parents would go with you to a local race. Maybe once they see how family oriented of a sport it is they may change their mind.

Sure racing dirt bikes can be risky but it does not have to be...I find it odd that often the same parents that will say no way to racing a dirt bike say yes to down hill sking... skiing is very dangerous alot more dangerous than a dirt bike. think about it... you are on the slops with a bunch of people who often have no training to be there, going in every direction possible with no regard for those around them.. to add to that they do it with little or no protective gear... racing MX at least it is required to wear protective gear.. so buy the most you afford. 2nd everyone is riding in the same direction and if anyone falls there are flaggers to assist and direct traffic. in addition to this, if it does get serious there is medical help at the track... If it is a big concern, try vintage MX it is alot safer and everyone there knows they can not afford to get hurt so they tend to use their heads on the race track... beside there is no double or huge jumps.... May I suggest spending a little time and money and completing a MX school.

I had a few scramblers or motocross bikes in my time and they can be dangerous,if riding on the road as so many kids do these days.If I had my time again I would go for a trials motorcycle, anyone can do a wheelie or jump on a motorcross bike but it takes real skill to handle a Trials machine. have a look at some of the videos on youtube and check out some of the free style riders. Its a lot safer than motox

lie is about the only advice that i can give you to convince him its safe, cuz its not no matter if your a pro or its your first time on a bike. But with all the gear they have out there if you do crash you dont always break something or have to go to the hospital. Its not really all that bad if you know what your doing but something could go wrong at any moment. Just tell him about all the protective stuff and that you will never get on the bike without and you wont race until next year or until your ready or whatever. just be vauge cuz if you give him all the facts hes going to say no, As far as tips for riding go, get use to the bike and than push your limits to there fullest. good luch

if he doesnt mind paying for things then let him watch videos of all the bike gear reviews such as leatt neck braces, i had a stack with one on a few weeks ago and without it i wouldnt be hear talking to you so neck braces are very important. Because he doesnt mind footing the bill tell them that everytime you ride, ran wind or shine that you will wear your full protective gear, with all that on there not much a chance of you hurting yourself other than impact hits which cant be protected.

your best chance is getting friends that ride or anybody you know to have a chat with them just casually dont make it to obvious and get them talking about it, if you want i can give you my email and you can get them to ask me and questions i more than willing to help

Any one that has raced motocross for very long has had many broken bones, Also regular health insurance doesn't pay medical bills so hospital bills can add up quick.

It is indeed unsafe to ride dirt bikes, but theres a lot of protective gear to protect your body from injury, so try telling your parents that. Crashes are going to happen and you are going to get hurt you just have to protect yourself as much as you can.

Nowhere no one is interested in dirt bike racing in India

Yes. They take huge precautions with the bikes as long as you have proper safety gear, and do it in a specialized motox arena.
