If you defaulted on a student loan, will they give you another?

I defaulted on a student loan right after high school. I made intermittent payments and eventually they collected the remainder though a federal tax return.

I am 30 now and thinking of returning to school... is there a policy with regard to this? Will I be able to obtain another federal student loan?

If the previous defaulted loan has been completely paid for, then you should be able to qualify for financial aid again. Generally, the rule is that you don't qualify if you currently have a loan in default. If the debt is paid, you should be eligible again.
