You're right...those two do tend to be the cheapest. I have been to both and didn't notice a huge difference in prices between the two. Cheap souvenirs are available either place. Most of that stuff is made in China...the price is pretty consistent where ever you go. The choices for shore excursions varies by port, but there is a lot of overlap, and I've not noticed a big difference in price there either. Keep in mind you can always research online beforehand and arrange your own excursions or explore on your own.

Personally, I prefer Mexico to the Bahamas....especially if you enjoy seeing the real country, not just the touristy spots where they sell jewelry to cruise ship passengers. The Bahamas is only about 100 miles from Florida....not exactly an exotic locale. I couldn't find anything "real" to do in Freeport, and Nassau wasn't a whole lot better. The beaches are fine, but most cruise ports tend to have the beach...it's nice to find something more than that. I didn't feel comfortable driving in the Bahamas (on the left), but have rented a car more than once in Mexico, which is fun. Often you can find ruins and other authentic cultural sites in Mexico, which breaks up the monotony of the beach every day. But, to each his own. :)

If you have more questions about specific ports feel free to message me.

    Good luck!

Mexico if you live on the West coast or Caribbean if you live near Florida. I say this because flying to the cruise port can be very expensive. As far as souvenirs go, I have to say both mexico and the Caribbean have lots of inexpensive stuff. Just don't forget the hidden costs such as tips, alcohol, shore excursions, and spa treatments, all which can add up quickly.
