Is there a better phrase to use then "Homophobic"?

I Have and Always will hate the word "Homophobia", Not because I dont think it exists. but because it makes it sound like some sort of Medical Condition, Or that theres somewhat an exuse for bieng so ignorant. Most "Homophobics" arent Scared of Homosexuals (like the name suggests). they just hate them!

There IS an excuse for being ignorant - ignorance. Education is the cure.

Homophobia could mean a fear of homosexuals and homosexuality, or it could mean an irrational aversion to homosexuals or homosexuality. The term is rather apt, as far as I can see. We just need to make it known that it also pertains to an irrational aversion, which most people don't know.

oh but I think they are scared of us. cuz why else would it bother them so darn much? honestly? is it just because of "the bible"? No. they're scared. maybe only sub-consciously, but they are afraid of us and what we are, they're afraid to admit it exists and isn't our fault because if they do, they have to admit that they too could have this affliction, or someone they love and most people who are homophobic can't handle that.

NO there's not a different word per se but there's always ignorant. :) that one works. And closed-minded and well, they call us sick, so why not call the straight homophobes sick for their orientation?

Well if you pick the word apart what it really means is that you are scared (phobic) of things that are the same (homo)

    A better word for homophobic

    A bigot?

    Intolerant?

    Ignorant?

    Brainwashed by religion and/or society?

    Insecure?

    "Anti-gay". Or just "bigoted".

I think a possible meaning of homophobia is "fear of homosexuality", but most people assume it is "fear of homosexuals" which does sound pretty ridiculous.

prejudiced, sexist, arrogant, ignorant, close minded, narrow minded, un educated, religious extremist, discriminative...etc or just plain twats.

Heterosexist. That's actually the proper term for it.

Of course. Instead of homophobes, we can call them 'spiteful people' which they admittedly are.
