Literary Analysis of "The Screwtape Letters"?

I have to write a literary analysis of The Screwtape Letters for school, but I have no clue what could be analyzed. I mean, it's a deep and complex enough book, but theres REALLY not that much thats analyzable. Or maybe it's just that theres way too much to analyze and i feel lost?? Idk, but i have to start it the day after tomorrow. Any suggestions?

Great book. There is plenty to analyze in the Screwtape Letters, but you are right in supposing that it is difficult. The best way to analyze something is to ask yourself questions: Did you like the book? If so, what specifically did you like about it? What didn't you like? Why? Is Lewis' style effective? What would you say is an over-arching theme of the book? Why do you think Lewis wrote it? Those are the kinds of things you should ask yourself.

Also, do a bit of casual research. Google "Screwtape Letters" and see what other people and critics have said about it. That might jog your brain a bit, and get you thinking about the book.

Don't be afraid to be critical of Lewis. Your analysis doesn't have to be the perfect scholarly philosophical essay. Just pick the things that seem most important to you about the book.

If its a deep, complex book then there's a lot to analyze. You have to look deeper than what's on the surface. Your problem seems to be with Literary Analysis itself and not the book. Do you know how to do a literary analysis?

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austine is has complex characters, and there are many things that can be analyzed. BUT, if you don't know how to do a literary analysis then you might end up saying, 'there isn't anything to analyze.' You need to put those critical analysis skills to use. If you don't understand how to do a literary analysis, which is MUCH harder than a critical analysis, then you need to ask your teacher to explain it to you more or see if she can give you examples of how it's done.
