Questions About My ASVAB Scores (Air Force)?

I am 20 years old, looking to hopefully become a military linguist for the United States Air Force.

I just went to MEPS this weekend and took the ASVAB for the first time and it appears that I got an amazing score, but I really don't understand exactly what they mean. I was ensured that with my scores I would get tons of jobs that I was qualified for, but I didn't seem to get all that many, about 3/4's horizontal page of them (maybe that's a lot. haha But out of ALL the jobs, it didn't really seem like "tons"). Did I score lower than I thought, or do they usually not give you ALL the jobs you qualify for, but just the ones most available at the time or the ones above a certain level? Like someone with a score of an 80 won't get any jobs offered to them below a score of 52 or something (those are just made up numbers btw)?

I hope to be a linguist, and I know my score was definitely high enough to qualify for that job, I just need to take the DLAB and from what I've seen and heard online, it sounds pretty damn hard! If not, they said I would likely get a job in Airborne ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance), my first choice aside from Airborne Linguist. So -

1. Do they only show you certain and not all jobs that you're qualified for?

2. Which do you think is better job-wise, Airborne Linguist (I also qualified to be a Cryptolinguist) or Airborne ISR?

3. Are my scores actually that above average? I'm not trying to sound smart or fish for compliments or anything, I just honestly don't know. xD

My Scores (Air Force) -

AFQT: 90

Mechanical: 85

Administration: 91

General: 88

Electronics: 79

Thanks, everyone. :D

Update:

Just re-read this - by "get" jobs, I mean the jobs on the list of jobs you qualify for when you go into the job counseling part of MEPS.

Update 2:

Just re-read this - by "get" jobs, I mean the jobs on the list of careers you qualify for when you go into the job counseling part of MEPS.

Update 3:

lol Actually, Jeeper, I'm not sure what you're talking about. I should be Tier 1, but that's beside the point. I'm pretty sure that Tiers have to do with your college credit and graduation status, rather than my ASVAB scores. I could be wrong though. I graduated from highschool and I have just about an AA (around 58 units at the moment and finishing this semester). ;D I go in at an E3 pay grade. And I'd say that scoring higher than almost 80 percent of the people who take the test is pretty decent for electronics (not that I had planned on bragging about it anyway), since a previous poster said that it's calculated by percentile. ;)

Update 4:

Upon further research, I found that Tiers also have to do with ASVAB scores, so you were right on that, but I did just barely miss it. But from my knowledge, Tiers had to do with your college credits and graduation status as well, so who knows what I am. hehe

"1. Do they only show you certain and not all jobs that you're qualified for?

~~"majority of Air Force jobs (approximately 60 percent) are reserved for individuals joining under the Guaranteed Aptitude program. Therefore, many of the available jobs ARE NOT RELEASED to the Air Force Jobs Counselor at MEPS. Instead, they are "reserved" and offered to recruits in basic training, who enlisted under the Guaranteed Aptitude Program"

I dont know if that applies to linguist jobs, just something to think about.

    2. Which do you think is better job-wise, Airborne Linguist (I also qualified to be a Cryptolinguist) or Airborne ISR?

~~I vote for Airborne linguist but I really have no real personal reasons why. I have a few friends who work for The Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency (Formerly Air intelligence agency) here at Lackland and they generally love their job so I guess either way you'll probably be happy!

    3. Are my scores actually that above average? I'm not trying to sound smart or fish for compliments or anything, I just honestly don't know. xD"

~~Your scores are great! highest possible score is 99 and most people on average score around 50 so you did very well! I got a 78 and thought I did pretty good lol way to out do me ;)

    Good luck with everything!!

Hey, I just took the ASVAB last week, and I thought I did pretty well, and now you're putting my results to shame. I believe the linguist jobs falls under the general category, and from what I've heard you only need a minimum of a 72 to be eligible for those jobs, and pretty much everything else under general.

I too am actually interested in becoming a linguist, and I received an 80 under my general section, and my recruiter said if I apply for a job under it, I'd be taken pretty promptly, so I don't think you'd have anything to worry about. I'm going to have to take the test for it as well, and hopefully we can both reach the minimum score of 100. It's a great job I think though, whether it's Airborne or Crypto. I haven't looked much into ISR, but I'd be thrilled to end up a linguist.

Don't worry about your scores though, you did plenty well.

There probably wasn't a lot of choices because the AF doesn't really have a lot of opening right now. You will get to pick a few choices for what job you want and then they will give you a job for what they need. I am going Army because I only want intelligence, I don't want to be stuck doing some crap job for a few years when I am capable of more. I scored a 95 on the asvab.

They will show you all the jobs you qualify for. Your results are a percentile, e.g. If you score an AFQT of 90, then you scored above 90% of the applicants. That's the same for all the MAGE scores. You did well, but are not exceptionally well qualified. You did well enough to qualify for all career fields (including 9S100, which requires the highest ASVAB scores).

Congrats! Take the DLPT and the EDPT to fully qualify for all career fields. (not considering other factors such as clearance and physical standards)

Actually your just a Tier ll recruit.

You did not score high enough to be a Tier l recruit.

But your scores are high enough for every AFSC except one. ( technical applications specialist )

Your electronic area score is nothing to brag about.
