Putting cockatoo harness on Greater Sulphur Crested?
We have recently just bought a feather tether harness for our greater sulphur crested who is not tame. She is outside in a cage and she bites and we do not know how to put it on her without probably getting bitten how do we put it on her without getting bit. P.S we cant put a towel over her head because we have to put the harness over her head. What do we do i dont want a good $35 tipped down the drain?

There is no way you can put a harness on this bird without first training him the basics. Wearing a harness is an unnatural thing for a bird & even highly trained parrots & toos take a while to get used to it. You need to train your bird to accept you, your hand to step up & basic skills before trying to perform advanced things like that. Why does this untrained bird need a harness at this point? Kepp the harness for a much, much later stage in training. Your bird will need to form a trusting, loving bond with you before training can even begin & that means spending lots of time with her, talking to her & interacting with her on her terms. If you are willing to put in the time to train your bird properly she will accept you in the end. Cockatoos are extremly social & emotional creatures & really need to be trained to live happily in captivity otherwise they are constantly in fear of you this could lead to severe behaviour problems such as self mutilation. Your too is extremly intelligent.

You'll have to get her tame first. Don't you think she would be terrified to be grabbed and stuffed into a thing that forces her to stay with someone she doesn't even trust yet? She could have a heart attack! Even if that doesn't happen, she could fly away, unless you brought the cage into the house before getting her out.
As for taming her, how much attention is she getting, and wouldn't it help to bring her inside? Indoor pets usually do get more attention from their people than outdoor pets, and a bird will never become tame unless it's allowed to spend lots of time with its people. Plus if she gets out of the cage outside, especially not being tame, that's an easy way to lose her, so how do you expect to hand-tame her outside when such training requires opening the cage?

I do not believe in the flight harness. It is usually for the convenience of the owner, not the bird. I am sure they do not like it.

please don't make her/him waer a harness birds are not supposed to be clothed they can make them feather pluck and the bird will resent you much more than it already does
