White gold is an alloy of gold, with other metals added to make it harder, as pure

gold is too soft to wear well as jewelry. Sometimes copper is used to make it harder

and sometimes silver is used. Nickel, platinum, or palladium can be

used also, and all those metals are white or silvery.

If enough silvery colored metal is added, the alloy is white

instead of yellow, and then it is called white gold.

    Hope this helps.
