Is this a normal feeling when your in love?

Okay i don't really know if im in love or not but theres this guy named shawn, and we've been talking for 3 months, its like were dating and stuff because he puts his arm around me,hugs me, and talks to me constantly and he told me he loved me about a week ago and said he really meant it. The only reason we're not dating is because my mom won't allow it but i didn't tell him that i just told him i need to think about it before we date but i've been thinking about it for like a month now and i thought maybe he would just give up on me, but he hasn't and i think i might love him too because sometimes when im not with him but just thinking about him my heart pounds really hard and it actually starts to hurt and im not sure if thats because im in love or if im actually having heart problems....so i was wondering does this happen to anyone else?
