How busy are the main attractions in Paris in late April?
My wife and I are going to Paris for 5 days, April 28th to May 2nd. Is this a busy time in Paris for the main attractions such as the Eiffel Tower, Le Louvre etc?
Also I understand that May 1st is a day when things are shut. Is this correct?
Thanks

Paris is never empty, but late April is still the low season. There won't be near as many tourists as in the summer. You'll still have to stand in line some places like the Tower, but the waits will be tolerable.
Because it is still the low season, some attractions may still be operating on reduced hours. Think to check their websites ahead of time to make sure they'll be open on the day and time that you want to go.
May 1st is a holiday, and it's on Saturday this year. A lot of attractions and stores will be closed, or on reduced hours. The Louvre museum, for example, will close for that holiday. Again, you'll have to check their websites to know for sure.

The weather is still rather unpredictable in April, so there are not vast crowds. You can always isolate yourself in the Louvre as it is so huge and if you enter by one of the side entrances rather than the main ones there are no queues at that time of the year. The Eiffel Tower is always busy but the queues at that time of the year are dealt with quite speedily as peope do not stay all that long at the top. Yes, the first of May is an official holiday and shops will be closed , but some major attractions are open all the year round except Christmas and New Year's day.

I hope your wife and you will have a great time and good weather.

I would pick up a paris museum pass; it will pay for the admission and allow you bypass some lines at certain attractions. It can save you some money and time if you use it wisely. You can get them at Charles de Gaulle, if you're arriving there, and online as well.
