Radiation causing flashes of light.?

What types of radiation can cause, or cause you to see small concentrated flashes of light, if any? What are common causes of this radiation, and how could you test for it?

Update:

Thanks for the answer. I was under the same impression, that's why worded it as "Causes/causes you to see". Are you aware of any types of radiation where the effects of exposure (around a half hour) would cause a person to see flashes of light?

Alpha particles can interact with certain materials such as ZnS to produce flashes of light. These lights are detected by a photomultiplier tube and converted to an electric signal which can be sent to a digital display. Being in the military and having a nuclear profession, we use things called radiac's(radiation detection, indication, and computation instruments). There are many causes of radiation. It can come from cosmic rays, natural materials in the earth, a by-product of nuclear processes, etc. There are other ways radiation can emit flashes of ight too. Most of these probably cannot be seen by the naked eye unless you would be looking in a pulsing reactor(look on youtube.com).

usually all radiation emits either gamma or x-rays

it is very rare that radiation emits visible light
