Can the Chinese army defeat the Japanese army?

Japan doesn't have an army. It only has a self-defense force.

The Chinese military is incapable of moving enough men and materiel to invade Japan.

If the Japanese military re-arms fully it can defeat the Chinese on the water and air. The Japanese Army could not launch a seaborne operation into China and defeat it. Japan can blockade China and devastate its economy. Japan has the manpower and technology to have one of the best Navies in the world. China cannot focus all its spending on navy as it has a huge land army.

Not like im rooting for them, but I believe that Individually, China would beat them pretty easily. However, I'm sure the U.S. would come to Japan's aid and defeat them with the world's most powerful Navy.

Yes, the Chinese has numerical superiority in addition to better armor and artillery. The Chinese airforce is larger and generally better suited to close air-support as the Japanese Air-Defense force is primarily specialized at anti-shipping duties. As of now the Japanese navy is still superior thanks to many U.S. made cruisers and a large fleet of SSKs that could launch a Uboat stile campaign against Chinese shipping. Because of their numbers though, no nation on Earth could defeat China in an conventional war except the U.S. and that is only because they would have to cross an ocean to get to us and in that time we could since every-ship they have.
