Converting box cake to Pound cake consistency?
I want to give the cake a bit more heft, regular box cakes are about 1 1/3 cup water 1/2 cup oil 3 eggs. So do i simply increase oil and egg to make the cake heavier? I find the normal mix too spongy and light.
MMT and sandhillkar both on the money for the answer. dunno which is better though, will test in the future:)

My normal recipe for making a quick pound cake is as follows. You can mix and match the flavors as you wish.
1 Duncan Hines cake mix
1 4 serving size instant pudding mix, same flavor as the cake mix
4 eggs
1/2 cup veg oil
1 cup water
Mix until well combined. Beat 2 minutes. Pour into prepared (oil spray or greased) pans and bake at 350F until cake tests done with a toothpick or springs back when touched with your finger in the center. Allow to cool 10 minutes in pan and then remove from the pan to finish cooling.
This recipe is on some of the Duncan Hines boxes. I've used it for years when I need a quick, better than the usual box cake. The only time I don't match the cake mix and the pudding flavor is when I'm making lemon. I use a white or yellow cake mix and the lemon pudding and add a couple tablespoons of fresh grated lemon zest to the batter at the end. Just stir it in well. I find the lemon cake mix and lemon pudding has too much of the fake lemon flavor. I often split the cake and fill between the layers with lemon pie filling and then glaze with a sour cream glaze. Cream cheese works well too.
I've also done chocolate with canned cherry pie filling between the layers and fudge glaze and whipped cream for a take on Black Forest cake. Yellow cake with a peanut butter filling and chocolate glaze gives you a take on the Kandy Kake.
Another quick fix is to use buttermilk in place of the water, following the regular directions. Not as pound cake like as the above but it works. And adding 1/2 c. low fat sour cream works too.

Not sure how to answer your question. If you want a pound cake, they are simple enough to make without a mix. A pound each of sugar, butter, flour, and eggs. Bring the butter to room temp, cream it with the sugar, add the flour little by little.
You can also make a chocolate pound cake. Just add subtract a half cup of flour and add baking cocoa instead.
