Can you help me with a financial aid question?

I already filled out my 10-11 FAFSA, and on the instructions it says to list the information of the parent you live with, which is my mother so I did. But, on her tax return she didn't claim me or any of my siblings as a dependent, my father did. I have to fill out a 'dependent student' form for school and send them a copy of my tax return/my mothers tax return. If she didn't claim me/my siblings as dependent am I going to get in trouble? I've lived with only my mom for going on four years now, and I get all of my support from her. I really need financial aid, and I don't want to mess it up somehow. :( Please help!

    No, you're fine.

I lived w my Mom my whole life but every-other year my Dad would claim me on his taxes. This won't affect your financial aid. They understand that divorced/separated parents will claim their children on and off throughout the years. Dependency on the FAFSA and on taxes can be different.

particular. in the event that they have achieved the paintings, put in the attempt, are academically qualified and are citizens of the state then they should get the practise they have earned. Their father and mother pay the sales and materials taxes that pay for the ed systems. those childrens you're asking approximately have been extra right here as toddlers and little ones and, for all intents and purposes, are "from right here". Why no longer label somebody dropped at California from Minnesota while they have been an toddler a non-resident, too? As a member of a protracted-time CA kinfolk, i does no longer innovations seeing all the out-of-staters taken care of like the distant places colonists they're. We had a large state till it crammed up with Mid-Westerners and Southerners. what isn't honest is letting an all-American slacker who spends greater time annoying what's due him that he hasn't earned than analyzing get the financial help that should get carry of in accordance to academic benefit.
