How long will it take to get good at the piano?
I have been taking lessons for 5 years but haven't taken very seriously yet. Right now I practice about 30 minutes a day. I'm not terrible but certainly not good.
How long a day do I need to start practicing to become really good?

This all depends on what you define as good. I practice somewhere around 2-3 hours a day, but I wouldn't call myself really good yet. I still have a lot to learn.
But I think for someone who has played for five years, you should try and aim for at least one hour a day of solid practicing. Such as scales, arpeggios, and most importantly slow practicing.
Eventually you'll want to spend more and more time practicing. Because you'll want to get better, and because you genuinely enjoy it.

I think you'd need to practise a lot more than 30 minutes a day to really improve. Say, at least 2 hours a day? If you kept that up then you'd see improvement in as little as about 2 months. I've only been playing the piano for about a year and a half (prior to that i played the clarinet) and I practise the piano for at least 3 hours a day. I went from grade nothing in summer 2009 to preparing 3 grade 7 standard pieces for my A level recital next month. It's all about perseverance!

Some people get good in 4 or 5 years; others never do. It depends on how much talent you have. If you really want to get better, practice and hour a day, and dive into something harder than you can play now.

I believe that you have to practice over one hour a day.. I know it's not very easy but if you want to be better at piano it needs a lot of practice .....
