?? HOW TO GET RID OF SKUNK ODOR ON A DOG ?? OH NO!!! My dog met a SKUNK!?
OH NO!!!
They didn’t fight, no physical contact, but he got sprayed.?
He doesn’t seem to care, but GEEZE it’s so strong, you can taste it.
He’s between small and medium size. He’s generally an inside dog, a family member, like one of the kids. But we can’t take it! He’s out till he smells better.
Please help our dog. If you know anything that I can do, I’d greatly appreciate it. Give me some suggestions and/or ideas.
Thanks!

Removing the scent from objects or creatures can be difficult. Some home remedies suggest using tomato juice or vinegar. A more complex and effective remedy includes application of a mixture containing hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and liquid soap. The thiols, which are responsible for the odor, are not water soluble, even with soap, but the baking soda catalyzes the oxidative ability of the peroxide, which oxidizes the thiols into highly water-soluble sulfonates. In an episode of the television program MythBusters, the hydrogen peroxide mix was found to be the most effective smell removal agent.
The recipe:
one quart 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 teaspoon liquid soap
(you can halve these ingredients as it only lasts for 24 hours once mixed)
Mix and apply to the dog using a cloth or spray bottle, leave on for about 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Remember this contains peroxide, so spot test fabrics first! It may also cause a slight lightening of your dog's fur.

The best thing by far is the hydrogen peroxide and baking soda and dish soap. Mix in a bucket and sponge it on the dog and let it sit on for 10-15 minutes then rinse well with plain water. Works far better than the tomato based stuff and trust me I have two hunting dogs and a doberman all of whom have been skunked. They were able to sleep in the house after being bathed in theis stuff. We keep the ingredients on hand at all times.

Place dog in bathtub, pour a generous amount of tomatoe juice over dog, work into coat. Allow to stand for at least 10 minutes, then rinse dog until the water runs clear. DO NOT shampoo dog before or after juice. Note: If this is not done within 1 hour of spraying it may not work. Also if you do not have juice, but do have at least spaggetti suace to cover the dog your good. Just becareful of your drain.

Tomato juice is commonly recommended but will just make your dog smell like skunky tomatoes. :P
You should use a solution of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Put your dog in the tub or sink, mix the ingredients, they will start to foam, use it immediately working it deep into the dogs coat. Let stand for about 5 minutes if your dog will tolerate it. Then rinse. Repeat a few times if necessary. Don't get it in the eyes or ears!!

Poor things -- you and the dog, of course. Bathe him with dog shampoo and then add baking soda when he's all lathered up. You may need to do this every day for a few days. Fresh baking soda works best for this, so get a new box if needs be.

yes that happened to us a couple of years ago. what we did was put our german shepherd in a bath filled with tomato sauce. it helped a little but not fully. so we just gave her a bunch of baths too. if i can remember we checked on google.com for some suggestions.
sorry that happened!!
good luck and hope i helped! ♥

Go old fashioned! My dogs get "skunked" all the time! Bathe them in tomato juice. The tomato juice itself leaves a bad scent so be prepared to give your dog a bath with dog shampoo to get the tomato scent off of him.
