Why do MS Vista updates keep corrupting and/or disabling my sound card driver?

I just have the standard sound card for an Acer Aspire, running Vista home premium. Every time MS forces updates down my throat in the middle of the night ( I know, but they tend to sneak in with the security updates: there's irony for you ) I end up having either to system restore or download and re-install the sound card driver. It's a pain in the ****.

good morning. I had this one a couple of months back. Updates included realtek audio update which with a click shut off the sound completely. I uninstalled this and went on the filehippo site and typed in realtek high definition audio. (about 19Mb I think). since then, no probs, and, no updates for this sound driver from microsoft. This is not a new problem, various forums show it is widespread. However, going for the high defintion version is definately the answer.

Correction, just looked it up10.3Mb. and I typed in realtek high defintion for vista.

If you can’t find the right sound drivers manually I would recommend just getting a software program that can do it for you. There is a program I use which will find drivers for just about all hardware devices. The best part is it takes a snapshot of your system specifications and matches the right driver to go with it. Perform a free driver scan at:
