What do you think of our children's names?

My three children are of English and Japanese decent so me and my hubby wanted to honour both heritages so we gave the children an English forename and Japanese middle name. We gave them English first names and not Japanese as we do live in England.

We know alot of people will think the names sound a little silly as their is such a big difference but we love all their names.

We have

Alice Keiko (pro:"Kay-Ee-Ko") who is 4 years old.

Henry Akio (pro:"Ah-Key-Oh) who is our 3 week old male twin

and Charlotte Kiyomi (pro:"Key-Oh-Mee") who is our 3 week old female twin.

Obviously we just call them Alice, Henry and Charlotte most of the time.

Keiko means "beloved"

Akio means "glorious man"

Kiyomi means "pure beauty"

Their surname is Maeda (pro:"My-Ade-Ah"

We love their names but would just like some opinions.

Be honest - if you think they sound silly then just say so.

No offence will be taken :)

I don't think the names sound silly - I think it's nice that they honor the childrens' Japanese heritage. Obviously, the styles of the first and middle names clash a little because they're totally different, but all three names still flow very smoothly. Alice, Henry and Charlotte are all very classic, timeless names - they sound perfect together for siblings, and they all have a cute, old-timey sound to them. I also think all three Japanese names are cute and I you definitely made the right decision to give your children English first names and Japanese middle names. Alice, Henry and Charlotte all sound very normal and fit well as English names, but the names still have a pretty, Japanese flair to them. :]

Lovely sibling set! Alice, Henry and Charlotte are among my favorite baby names, and separately and together, they just sound so amazingly English! (I'm kind of an Anglophile lol.) Very classic and strong.

I love their middle names too. Actually, I have a few half-Japanese, half-white friends (here in America) and their parents did the same thing, giving them an English first name (because they've grown up here) and a Japanese middle name, which is really nice.

And I love the meanings of the middle names as well. They don't sound silly at all to me, just very sensible and pretty (and Henry Akio is very handsome lol).

PS Out of curiosity, who is the Eleanor your username refers to? Does Alice actually go by Eleanor?

Actually I think that they are all lovely names. The Japanese middles flow quite well with the English first names and the first names sound very nice with your last name. I'm partial to Alice, Henry and Charlotte; I've always thought them excellent names. I'm trying to find a negative point and the only one that I can some up with is that your son's initials spell Ham, but really this isn't that bad a thing!

They are average first names. I did have a friend when I was little who's first name was Kioko (key-yok-o) not sure what it meant but I new it was japanese. I think the first names are okay something you'd see everywhere and I dont think the names blend very well with each other (first and middle.) Everyone likes a name that goes well together for example my son's name is Robert Brian. Maybe an older name but it just sounds good together. Although you have not too many options to belnd a japanese name with an English name because the names are from very different cultures.

I like Henry but Charlotte and Alice isn't something I'd use

truth I'd use Henry as a middle name personally

I tend to prefer uncommon names though

my ex and white with are both causasian and named

their daughter Lorelei with a japense middle name

but I like it oddly enough

I think Akio and Keiko are kinda two close together

I think their lovely, unique names. Charlotte Kiyomi is very beautiful sounding. Your names are well thought out and creative. I think it was a good idea to include both of your heritages, so your children will honor their heritages!

I think that's awesome that they have names from their heritage..My mother is from spain and I always wish I had a spanish first name and therefore will name my daughter after my grandmother which is in spanish. However, the names are cute but they don't roll off the tongue easily but that is because the first and middle combo is different. After saying them over and over again they start to blend better. And who cares if its different or sound different its awesome!..Stay true.

I like the name Alice, and Charlotte is okay, but I'm not big on Henry.

The middle names are pretty and original.

  • I would have put the middle names first and call them always by such beautiful names!

Using these beautiful words in reference to your children will have a profound effect on their lives and if they don't like it as an adult (they will though) they can always decide to go by their middle names.

    Great Names!
