Marine Corp basic training question?

I go into Marine Corp basic training in around 5-6 months.

Im wondering how to prepare for it, the best ways to work out to get me semi-prepared for the fist few weeks of basic training.

Again, im looking for a method to get myself physically prepared for Marine Corp boot camp, thanks everyone.

    Physical conditioning aside, learn your general orders and also the rank structure of both the Marine Corps and Navy. Recruit knowledge plays almost as big a role as PT does in the training schedule.Get used to not referring to yourself as "I". From the instant you stand on those yellow footprints you are to refer to yourself as "this recruit" or "recruit (last name)", ex. "recruit smith requests permission to speak to senior drill instructor sgt jones." And most importantly are the following two words: speed and intensity. Everything you do in boot must be done with speed and intensity, you must get things done with a sense of urgency, not panic but controlled precise movement. It is not just a physical change that takes place at boot but mental change as well. You will learn to work as a team with those in your squad even if you don't always like your squad mates you will still push them to succeed,because when one fails you all fail. Keep this in mind and the physical aspect will take care of itself, that's what I.T. is for.

    first off, It is not basic training because that is the army's thing. It is called boot camp. Boot camp is standardized these days and is broken down into hours of certain activity:

    41.5 instructional Time (core values, leadership traits...)

    59 physical fitness (running, push ups, so on)

    54.5 close order drill (marching in formation)

    31 field training (shooting, sleeping outside, doing teamwork exercises)

    27 close combat training (martial arts called MC Map)

    13 conditioning marches (hiking with weight on your back)

    60 administration (paper work, gear issue)

    55.5 Senior Drill instructor time (Mail call and discussion with your senior drill instructor)

    60 Movement time (being bused to different bases)

    479 Sleep

    210 Basic Daily Routine (brushing teeth, getting dressed...)

    179 Chow (eating)

    Total: 1518 hours

    As you can see from the break down, being in general physical shape is definitely a plus but most of what boot camp is about is mental stress. The whole idea is to keep you on your toes for 3 months straight as if in a combat environment while teaching discipline. For example, the daily routine is done by the "numbers" where they you exact direction such as put your left boot on and then count down the time you have remaining and if you can't do it in time there is consequences such as push ups or having to re do the task over and over again. The biggest thing that needed is bearing. If you can keep from smile/laughing or showing any emotion in all situation then you will be set. I will suggest learning your knowledge (leadership traits, core values....) and run, do push up, or hike from time to time and just overall get mentally prepare. Unless you are in horrible shape there is no need to be concerned. From my experience in boot camp, a lot of the guys I went through with, including myself, lost strength and muscle mass. This is because there is no weight lifting and no regular physical training. If you can show no weakness and no emotion besides aggression in 3 months you are set. Oh and the best tip I can give you is be prepared to screw up a lot! Not because you are bad but because that is how it is set up to be.

    Running push ups, crunches. pull ups any thing that will strengthen and increase your endurance.

    Also a good idea is to be prepared to check your attitude at the door if you have a bad one. Also you are not a Marine until you finish basic.

    Make sure he gets used to eating 3 square meals a day... no snacking. He should be working out every day, especially doing a lot of running, hiking, and pushups and situps. I wouldn't send him anything they don't issue in the mail. It may get him in trouble.

    ok let me tell you preparing is very smart and just another thing to say the more your ready the more htey will be harder on you, thats how it works to prepare to do your best is what you want!

    run 3 miles and get your time as low as you can perfect I think is 18 min or under for there scoring system, and do lots of push ups and crunches every day because they'll be your life in boot camp!!

    my boyfriend just joined and had a buddy that was in the reserves that worked with him every night to push him to run more, that is most important, cardio

    Go to a gym regularly and and perform various exercises such as push ups, pull ups ,deep knee bends, running, jumping, etc.

    Joining the marines is the worst decision i could ever make everyone hates it im an 0311 an its ****** stupid, try to get out of that shyt the best u can while u can.
