can a tooth rise up and out from the gum one day and then receed back the next day?

When I bit down this morning the 4th tooth from the back (including all molars), on the bottom was the only tooth touching on the bottom row. When I pressed my jaws together the one tooth hurt a little but all my teeth connected again. It has happened a few times in the past few weeks but never this bad. Now tonight,13 hours later, all is normal again. Could it be a swelling below? Weird but true. Thanks in advance for your help.

Update:

There is no infection visible, no puss, no smell, and no pain except for the few times it is higher and only then when I press against it. It does not feel like a tooth ache.

It appears that there is a lot of infection around that tooth. It may be coming from the tooth itself or it may be a gum problem. You need to be seen by your dentist to treat this and possibly be placed on some antibiotics. Good luck.
