Hyundai squealing/squeaking when turning and going over small bumps. What is it?!?
Hyundai Sonata 2004, about 70,000 miles
I'm in Illinois where it's quite cold right now, and I have a feeling the temperature is part of the problem here. This started a week ago, and has gotten a little louder since the first time I heard it. Basically the slightest movement of the wheel causes a very loud driver's side squeak. Going over rough spots on a road and speed bumps also cause the noise to occur. It's even audible when you're outside the car. It sounds like something needs lubricating, like something has worn down, but I know nothing about cars. I'd just like to know where exactly the fixing has to be done, what parts are necessary, and how expensive is should be to get done. The price thing is what I'm really wondering about. Does anyone have any ideas???

Almost all tire dealerships have a cheap inspection available. I had two bumper to bumper ones done yesterday for $10 each. They had a free one but the $10 was worth it. I was able to choose what I wanted them to do and what parts I needed for the DIY stuff I shall be doing. One dealership does it for $14. It is worth the waiting room and when the car is on the lift, visit it and the mechanic. You will know for sure the answer to your question and will be able to plan and act accordingly.

It sounds to me like a power steering issue, first thing you should do is check the fluid, it should be in a little reservoir on the top of the engine with a little steering wheel on the cap, if it is low just add some until it is in the correct range, you might need to do this again after you start the vehicle and run it for a little while. if it is not low on power steering fluid then check the tightness of the belt, if the belt is tight then i would say it is a worn belt or the bearings in the power steering pump are going bad.

Sounds like steering and or suspension issue.
Best not to leave it unnattended too long. If its a steering issue it can become dangerous very quickly and is not safe to be on a public highway.
Take it in to an alignment shop ASAP, for your own safety
They will be able to analyze it accurately for you

it could be sway bar bushings wore or the struts. it also cold be the bushings in the control arm.take a squirt can and squirt some motor oil on the bushings and see if it quits.
