yes, but why don't you sit by the tank for a few days and watch them to see if you can catch them in the act to confirm my answer, (be sure to shout, "who cut the cheese?" when you spot one with bubbles coming out his butt), and then report back...We'll be waiting...

Apparently, this is a frequently asked (and more seldom answered) question.
The best answer I've come up with is that some fish do, notably herring, and herring make noise when they do so, too.
And yes, presumably if you were looking at just the right time, you would see bubbles escaping from the fish.
Labyrinth fishes, such as bettas and gouramis, take air into a chamber in their gills and later expel it as a bubble. But I assume you are asking about gas coming out of the anus, not the gills.
