If Sydney has a Mardi Gras Parade for Gays? Why no Straight Parade?

There is a huge double standard going on. Gays want equal rights. Fine. I'm okay with that. Gays don't want segregation. Yet they segregate themselves with Gay Parades. Gays and Straights should march and parade side by side, without segregation.

there is approx. 1 gay person for every 10 str8. we are a minority and we don't have the same rights. and we have come a far way as a community but we are no where near equals.

sydney gay and lesbian mardi gras are for almost all people... there are parents and friends of gays.. and their is a section for supporting groups.

mate if u wanna march... march. u don't need a whole parade to do it.

It's not segregation. Is the St. Patrick's Day Parade being "segregationist" against those that don't celebrate St. Patrick's Day? No, of course not.

Will there still be Gay Pride parades in a hundred years? Maybe. Maybe not.

Right now we're still living in a time where gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals are heavily discriminated against and many are the targets of violence. It is a very liberating and empowering experience to unite with others who share that experience and celebrate an aspect of your identity that other parts of society hate and fear.

Also, I'm guessing you've never actually been to a pride parade or march because there are plenty of straight people that come to watch and many that are in the parade to show support for gay, bisexual, or transgender friends and loved ones or as part of gay-friendly companies or organizations. My old company used to have a float in our local pride parade every year and there were plenty of straight people on it.

The only segregation occurring is you segregating yourself. If you'd like to go show your support for acceptance of gay, bisexual, and transgender people I'm sure they'd be glad to have you. If not stay home, live your life, and don't get so upset about other people living theirs.

Mate, in Australia all of us LGBT persons already have the same equal rights and freedoms from discrimination. But there are many equal human rights we all don't legally have to enjoy our lives as equal human beings.

Mardi gras is no longer a protest march for gay and lesbian equal rights as it started as in 1978. It has become a month long festival for all the LGBT and straight people of the world, by the Sydney LGBT community.

i can not communicate for gays and lesbians, yet i'm from the hot Orleans section and would say for specific that hedonism is the entire element of Mardi Gras. that's why that's referred to as a carnival. The be conscious derives from the Latin "carne", which potential "flesh". traditionally, Mardi Gras is a occasion of flesh and a final possibility to take exhilaration in tremendously plenty each little thing till now the abstinance and fasting of Lent.

A straight parade would be nothing but bragging. What do they have to celebrate? Hey I'm straight and you're not. It's not like they're the minority being oppressed.

If you really wanna go then go. Who says you can't?
