The traditional Alt button technique in Windows only allows you to enter characters that are in your current DOS 8-bit character set or in your current Windows 8-bit character set if you type a 0 in front of the number. Since no Zodiac symbols are in either character set, no matter what character sets you are using, you cannot use this method to enter Zodiac symbols.

Some Microsoft applications, such as Notepad and Microsoft Office introduce an extended Alt button usage where if you enter a number from 256 to 65535 on the numeric keypad, the character obtained will be the Unicode character that corresponds to that number.

All Unicode characters are in the official Unicode charts at http://unicode.org/charts/ . You can find the Zodiac signs at http://unicode.org/charts/PDF/U2600.pdf along with many other pictorial symbols. Each symbol in Unicode has a unique hex value associated with it. You can translate the value to corresponding unique decimal value using any number of utilities, for example http://ostermiller.org/calc/calculator.html . Or just copy the hexadecimal code into the “Query” box at http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/searc... to get any information page on the character that include the corresponding unique decimal code.

Once you have the decimal value, you can use it with the left Alt key in Microsoft Office or Notepad to obtain the character.

You can also download and install the Quick Unicode Input Tool from http://www.cardbox.com/quick.htm which allows this Alt Unicode method to work in any application. (But the Alt DOS character set method will not work while this application is running.)

For many purposes copying and pasting from the Character Map is just as easy or perhaps easier, provided you have your Character Map set to a font that contains those characters.

If you have astrology software installed on your computer, than you can access the symbols from the font library.
