Emma, I don't believe that you are a non muslim, just as you wouldn't believe me if I were to tell you that I am a muslim but I do like the truth that the media is spreading about islam.

It's quite tiring to put your faults on the media (not for muslims of course) it's all excuses like because of "few" muslim extremist muslims are getting a bad image blah blah blah but what about mohammad he too did the same as the extremists are doing. So where do we place him? as a proprietor of peace (a place that he does not fit in ) or as a extremist? Whatever the muslims are doing is because of what was dictated by a war lord and his words are put into a book.

In order to hide what I have pointed out which proves their disrespect towards the earlier scriptures they may say that the person is not a muslim or not all muslims are like that but in their hearts they will be very happy about it.

Read the scriptures (quran and ahadith) as well as the earliest sira (available from amazon). Put all that you read and understand into one neat package and then reread the lot in context, place and time.

Muslims can be good and some bad but the core of the issue is mohammmed and his quran and what he claims and says in the ahadith. Is it all the truth ? There is only one possible conclusion if you do as .suggested above.

Stop listening to what muslims tell you about islam. Islam is NOT what scholars, mullahs, sheikhs, imams, youtube videos and websites and even other muslims tell you. It IS what the scriptures say, teach and ordain for and to muslims.

Yes of course we should react properly to the negative portrayal of Islam in western mass media by 1)give demonstration in the same media (tv,new papewrs,radio,magazine etc) the true picture of Islam 2)explain the negative side that is wrong practice of islamic teaching and it is done only by a very small muslims 3islamic leaders and scholars should spread out speeches and books about Islam and its good behaviour followers 4)prepare the dialogue or seminar between muslim sholars and christians scholar about the differences between Islam and Cristianity religion and its results should be spread out through mass media. 5)all islamic leaders among the countries held an international meeting which is visited also by the leaders of non muslim countries for discussing the negative picture of Islam and its followers 6)majority of muslims around the world should show to the public the good image and best practice of Islam and its followers in line with Qur'an and Hadits

The terrorists who kill do not believe they are killing innocent people. According to them, victims are not innocent because:

1. They do not worship Allah. They are not muslims. They are infidels.

2. They support western governments which are attacking muslim countries.

3. They are oppressing muslims around the world and Prophet Mohammed taught that killing is not as big a sin as oppression.

Terrorism is their way of fighting back. And they will continue to do so until they gain military superiority.

I don't have an answer for you, but I will say that you are not alone. I am not a Muslim, and I see the same -- the media and the general popular sentiment is anti-Muslim. Muslims are portrayed as being ALL terrorists, and are often poorly treated, at least here in America. To make matters worse, anyone who "looks middle eastern" is often automatically discriminated against. It's ridiculous!

Of course not all Muslims are extreme terrorists, out to murder anyone who doesn't believe as they do. Any more than all Christians are, or all Atheists are, or for that matter all people who wear a size eight shoe!

I haven't done as much research as you have, but I have had several close Muslim friends and I've read part of the Quran. Even without that, simple logic should tell us that any subset of people will have both good and bad, whether you are separating them out due to color, religion, sexuality, or even shoe size!

I don't have an answer..but I want to let you know that I totally agree with you. We have reality shows in the USA about women that have kids like rabbits. In pioneer days, more children meant help for the whole family to survive. Today, that is not the case as most children (not the caring ones) tend to go their own way after leaving home. I would like to see tv reality shows centered on some different nationalities within the USA. We are a melting pot here; however, we don't see anything of what is in that pot. We are overcome with reality shows about castaways, love boaty pre-adolescent bimbos and gents, and the Goslins and 40 kid family's with more on the way. We are treated by the tv program planners like idiots and teen bimbos. Cable stations that buy program packages for their viewers are at fault. I think reality shows that depict the different parts of country and the people within those regions..like NYC, would be interesting. Maybe it would help us to better understand those we know hardly anything about. We hear negative things about islamic people..but what about the good things? I am sure Islamic people hear bad things about us as well; maybe they need to hear some good things. We can't do anything about what is shown there...but we could sure raise collective voices about what is shown right here.

We know that media always lies so we no longer care about what they say, cauz we know who we are and what's our religion and God know that. So why should we get angry?

The news media almost always says negative things about the subjects they cover because people are more interested in negative things than positive things. I know only two people who have told me they are Muslim, both are very nice and opened minded people. I agree that the majority of Muslim people are nice and opened minded people, but I am also aware that like in every religion, there are crazy people who misrepresent the religion. The finest example that comes to my mind is the KKK. They claim that they represent what Christianity should be. Of course, they are wrong, the same as suicide bombers do not represent Islam.

i am a muslim and i always feel that the media are portraying muslims in a negative way and the truth about our religion is not shown , and it is so annoying that the media influences everyone minds and attitudes. i do feel that sometime i am afraid to mention my religion so people don't jump to conclusions which i don't believe is their fault i believe is of the media. so i would really like to say thank-you for rather than judging and assuming we are all terrorist you took out your time to find out the truth so thank you. i also believe that terrorists who claim to be muslims are not because they go against the fundamental beliefs of islam. i don't know how you could publicize your opinion but im sure there is a way.
