Use wiidumper, its an app on your wii u use to "dump" the game files into an SD card or USB device as an .wii file, which you later turn into a .iso file.

It won't hurt the computer (unless of course part of your cracked disk starts to fall into the computer, then that may cause a problem).
Just make sure you are using the right disk when burning it, the wrong kind will not play, even on a modded Wii.

You can't back up Wii games on a PC. DVD drive will read as a CD without any files. I've tried it without any luck

Not the way you want. You can if you have the specific lg disc drives. You can dump the game from your wii to your computer, if you have homebrew channel.
