feelings in a dog....................?

are dogs able to feel things like gratefulness or appreciation? For example, one time a kelpie mix we had, went to jump into our van but didn't push off hard enough and fell back out again, i caught him before he hit the cement

Without talking to the dog that would be hard to answer (and I haven't even been able to get my sheltie to answer why she puts her bed in her water bowl much less questions on such emotion- but I think that she was probably very happy you caught her regardless that she didn't fall! I know they feel bad, or sad, or happy =D

Grateful isn't such a large leap from those.

oh yea deffinatly, dogs have those emotions. they feel sad, scared, angry, happy, appreciative, threatened, invited, everything, dogs are very smart. you can read the dogs attitude by body language, its actually pretty cool when you can tell how a dog feels by looking at it, read up on dog psychology and dog body language. you will learn alot

I choose to believe so :) how do you think they become so attatched to us and love us so much besides the fact that they depend on us for food and shelter.
