What is your opinion of the Ford Windstar minivan?
I am thinking of adding a minivan to my fleet of taxicabs and wonder if the Ford Windstar might be a good choice. What problems can I expect it to have?

Give their storied history of transmission failures and head gasket problems. I don't think Windstars would make particularly good cabs.

carsurvey.org is the best place to look. Many people have reviewed their experience with Ford Windstar minivans there. http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/ford/windstar/
It does look like Ford no longer makes the Windstar or the Freestar minivans however. Your options for a Ford minivan are limited to the Transit Connect which I've not seen pulling taxi duty around Chicago yet. They did show one outfit for such a purpose at the auto show.

Would not add the Windstar to any fleet ( I hate to say it as I do bleed Ford Blue ) They have a lot of Transmission , Motor and ABS issues . If you could find a commercial windstar with the 3.0 Vulcan it would be a more reliable van but not worth the hassle . If I was going to use a van for a taxi I would use a Chevy Astro or GMC Safari . Not as fuel efficient or stylish but one tough little van

I look to remember Ford having an extreme style of engine issues for the time of that era. My neighbor had engine issues that have been the norm. Ford replaced into compelled to guarantee engines properly handed the unique settlement, however the themes confirmed up via 50,000 or so. you're in all likelihood out of the woods no remember if it continues to be working properly sufficient which you may purchase it. BTW I actual have a 2003 with 60k on it and that i could nonetheless evaluate it a good cost.

not a bad choice for taxi service.. true, windstars were not as highly rated as Chrysler's town & country and Dodges'Grand Caravans., but still pretty good units. certainly pretty well appointed interiors, better than Chryslers & GM. Used Windstars can be had at a good price.and that's what you want..
