How old do you have to be to take you BHS stage 1?
I am 13 at the moment, and i do pony club at my local yard. i have done my pony club C test, but my instructor has said me and my friend (who is also 13) can do our BHS stage 1, as that is more recognisable, however we were unsure with the minimum age.

Quote from the BHS site:-
Stage 1
(minimum age 14 years. It is envisaged that candidates under the age of 15 years may not have accrued the required skills/knowledge for this professional qualification.)
The candidate must understand the basic principles of horse care and, working under supervision, he/she must show some knowledge and practice of looking after a well-mannered horse in the stable and at grass. He/she must be capable of riding a quiet, experienced horse or pony in an enclosed space

The minimum age is 14 - however it is seen as more appropriate if you do it when you're 15 or older. You could also consider doing NVQs, their minimum age is also 14.
If you continue with you're ponyclub tests, I think you can skip BHS stage 1 and go straight to stage 2 if you have completed your ponyclub B test...And If you complete your ponyclub A and AH test you can skip BHS stages 1, 2 and 3, and go straight to PTT (Preliminary teaching test) and then get your BHSAI (Assistant instructor)
