Thinking about joining the Army??? (National Guard)?

I'm was thinking about joining the National Guard for extra cash and to gain life experience. I sing with my group at church and my parents are pastors. We already have so many members in the group and I'll be gone for some time. I haven't told them about my decision..I more so want to go to escape this hard life I'm living and want an escape goat, an outlet to lean on. What should I do and tell me the pros and cons of the guard?

The important thing to remember is that it will be hard. Do a lot of research. If you go to GoArmy.com you can browse MOSs(jobs) to find out what they offer. Dont let them force in into one job, especially not for the money! Once you sign the contract you belong to them so make sure you read it THOROUGHLY! Just remember you can walk away anytime before that. You should also be aware of things that can disqualify you from service and certain jobs.

If you are joining the Guard then you will only be gone for a few months for Basic and then it's back to the same old neighborhood. If you want to truly escape you should consider active duty.

The military is an excellent opportunity for people to grow up a bit, you need not make it a lifetime career.

Last bit of advice. If you do not like people telling you what to do, then you might want to consider another option. Also, if you are not into physical fitness and/or the early morning, then you will be miserable often.

It's a life changing experience.. but there will be times when you get f*cked over on your money and choice of job.. once you sign the paper, you belong to them... no ands ifs or buts about it!!!!!!

nicely throughout the time of the Vietnam conflict whilst "approximately 30,000 human beings went to Canada to stay away from the draft, approximately 40,000 Canadians got here south to connect the U.S. military" so i think of its cool.
