To call the USA from Europe, where is it better to get the phone card?

I'm going to be traveling Europe for a month and a half without a cell phone. So, I want to get a phone card to call my family in the USA. Where would I get the best deals on a phone card?

Also, what brands? And where can I find them? (specifically in Madrid, Spain or Rome, Italy)

Thanks for your help!

I have received them from my Family as gifts usually the $30 dollar cards. They are MCI International Rechargeable Prepaid Phone Cards.

I have no idea where they purchase them from, there must be a store or several that carry them. You can find out at the following:

    www.mci.com

There is one other option and that is the AT&T International card, give them a call and find out their terms. They have been great among the military communities one needs to sign a contract no costs other than phone bill incurred!

I assume you have a cell phone, have you contacted your provider to find out what they have to offer?

I suggest you purchase the cards in the States to avoid the taxes we have to pay here. The sales tax on products with in Euro community is 19% so be prepared for a price shock!

You can get them in many different places. Both here in the USA and in Europe. Most major cities will have them. You might be better to get a throwable Cell Phone (they are cheap in Europe) and use it. Other option is to look into maybe using an internet phone service, if you will be traveling with a laptop. That is the cheapest way by far!

Good Luck and have a safe and fun trip.

I traveled several European countries in 2002 and 2005 and used an A.T.& T. prepaid card and it worked great. I bought mine at Walmart. It was much cheaper than renting a cell phone or using a credit card. I made a call 5 minute call from Galway, Ireland once and it cost me 50 bucks.
