Bill is walking at a velocity v when he hits a large patch of ice.?

If the coefficient of kinetic friction is μk, how far does bill slide? Explain.

Update:

b) It turns out Bill was walking his dog, who is half as massive as Bill, when this happened. Assuming they are next to each other when they hit the ice, how far apart are they when they stop? Assume the coefficient of kinetic friction is, again, μk for the dog. Explain.

    Let he travel s meter, Than

    =>1/2mv^2 = Ff x s

    =>1/2mv^2 = μk x m x g x s

    =>s = v^2/(2 x μk x g)

    b) your first answer was good for a -- short of explanation. That was conservation of energy.

    Did you notice that m cancelled out? Same would happen for the dog.
